I bought it off craigslist and i dont have the persons number i bought it from to ask them. The sound is amazing and it goes very loud. The car came with a custom stereo but i dont think it matters. My cousin says he thinks they are custom but hes not a professonal its just his opinion. Is there a way i can check
If you can't figure out how to remove one of your door panels or the rear deck then you can take the car to an audio shop and they will disassemble the car for a fee.
Is there a way to put a custom stereo in a mach 460 sound system because i want to buy one with an ipod hookup and mp3/cd but i still want my door and rear speakers hooked up?
Yes you should be able to. You will need an adapter...see my resources for help.
"In 1995, Ford introduced the Mach 460 sound system. The system features three separate amplifiers, driving a total of eight speakers. Four 6"x8" woofers located front and rear drive the bass and mid-bass, with four tweeters, also front and rear, handling the highs. Integration of new equipment into a Mach 460 system can be complicated. New receivers can be installed and connected with the use of a special adapter that allows you to continue to use the existing amps and speakers. Speaker replacement is problematic, since aftermarket 6"x8" speakers are usually full-range speakers. If you're thinking about a complete change of the in-dash receiver and speakers, it's best to rewire directly from the new receiver to the new speakers (or from an aftermarket amplifier to the new speakers)."
See my crutchfield link. Has some great ideas about your system and what you can do to upgrade and such!
Also see the Mp3car.com resource as well.
Someone asks the same question you have.

One day one speaker will work, another day another speaker will work, none of the speakers are blown and all of the connections to the speakers themselves are secure so im guessing the wire is messed loose or something in the back of the stereo. Problem is I don't know how to get to it! It's a 1990 Buick Century Custom. Does anyone know where i can get instructions on getting in there to try and fix it? My owners manual is long gone.
If your speakers are old some times they do that it has something to do with the ferrofluid drying out...you can either live with it or buy new speakers...

I'm looking to get a new car. I'm not a big speed freak, but I love my music. I currently drive a 2001 Dodge Neon. Not a very fast car, not worth alot of money. But, I've got a Pioneer DH-9800 deck, JBL 6.5's in the front and JBL 6x9's in the back, XM Radio, and an IPOD Cable hooked up to my car. The car sounds great, but I want to get something that I could possibly take to competitions. I don't want an SUV or Truck, just a regular car. The reason I ask is because some cars have more space for speakers, better acoustics, better wiring, more trunk room, extra room in the hood, etc.
Of course, I'd like to be able to customize the outside, make it prettier, that sorta thing, but I'm more concerned with overall audio output power and quality. I'm also not looking to spend 50 grand on the car, so please, keep it reasonable.
I understand the whole everyone is different, get what you like. I want to know what others prefer or have seen that work better then others.
Thanks
lol neons, gotta look stupid bumpin in that, ok, just get a car u would like, dont come on here and ask people, just get rid of that neon and ne other car that is not american made would be fine
Im looking for some pics of a custom stereo in a S10 extended cab(sub enclosures/mounting positions etc) I just want some ideas for how to do my stereo. Also, any ideas for a nice system replacing all speakers, head unit, and probably 2 subs that can hit 2000 watts at least(make models etc)...keeeping under $1500 total price if possible. Any help arppreciated, i will pick a best answer!
Also, this is not goign to be an all-out show truck, more of a daily driver. so keeping the "passanger" are usable woudl be great.
I've posted this before, but it should provide you with a some help.
The components of a good car sound system would be as follows: The source (cd player, in-dash dvd/nav system, radio, tape player, etc.), the speakers, the subs, the amps, the parts/wiring. Also, depending on how big of a system, possibly a new battery or two and an alternator. Here are some of my recommendations as far as good brands.
Deck: Eclipse, Pioneer (regular or premier), Alpine, Kenwood Excelon, Nakamichi (not the greatest looking, but great sound).
Speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, Eclipse, Pioneer Rev High end: Focal, Boston, MB Quart, Nakamichi
Subs: JL Audio, MTX, Kicker, Eclipse, Audiobahn, Memphis, Hifonics, Diamond Audio, Fosgate (p3 and higher)
Amps: all the sub companies, plus, Precision Power, Crossfire, Cadence, Soundstream
Parts/Wiring: Monster, Tsunami, Streetwires, even Kicker and Fosgate make decent parts/wiring.
Now if I had to choose, here would be my choices:
Deck: Eclipse or Pioneer
Speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, or Eclipse
Amps/Subs: JL Audio or MTX
Wiring: Tsunami or Monster
As far as the order in which to purchase (if you can't do it all at once) here would be my suggestion:
First replace you speakers (stock stereo with good speakers sounds better then aftermarket stereo with stock speakers),
Then replace the deck (it'll help the speakers, but it will also give you the foundation to build the rest of the system off of)
Next, subs/amps/wiring (give you that extra bass that you need, make sure you use good wiring and the right size, capacitors if needed, important for system, also as far as the wiring, remember you will need another amp for speakers)
Next, amp for speakers (speakers will play cleaner, tighter, more accurate, and louder - a must, especially with the subs)
After that its all just accessories: i.e. satellite radio, navigation, dvd player, screens, etc.
Now as far as where to get them, most of these companies will be available at Circuit City, BestBuy, Cardomain.com, Cruthfield.com. Others are only sold at authorized dealers (usually a local audio company), but you'll have to check out their websites in order to find the ones nearest you.
As far as cost, I would say a decent FULL system would start around 1200 installed and then just go up from there.
But in the end these are just my recommendations (based on quality and sound), like Sparky said only you can judge what you like. Everyone's ears are a little different so what sounds good to me may not sound good to you. Shop around at all the car audio dealers and take a listen, but make sure you take one of your cds with you so you can judge all of them with the same song (one that you are familiar with). Email me if you have any questions, hope this helps. Also, I'll send you some pics of installs.
