Is my room too small for floor standing speakers?

My room is 10 feet x 10 feet, in the shape of a square. It has very high ceilings, probablly somewhere between 12 and 16 feet.

Would floor standing speakers (towers) be wasted in a room this size? Am I better off spending the money on 'bookshelf' speakers and some nice stands instead?

Are you talking stereo or surround? In your earlier question you wondered about surround.

If stereo, you want good sound, and you don't intend to get a subwoofer, floorstanding full range speakers are the way to go -- irrespective of room size (but you will probably find large speakers take over the room).

If you want surround -- as I said earlier -- go with small bookshelf speakers and a good sub. As to mounting, in a small room you can wall mount (no stands).

Mixing full range and mini speakers and a sub will work, but it's a waste of money and still has the "overfilling the room" effect.

That all said, speakers are a question of what works for YOU. You need to listen. Some people just don't like a small speaker / sub combination, others do. Audition speakers, preferably in a room of similar size (volume not width/length) to yours --- i.e. not at Best Buy or Circuit City or similar barn with bad rock blaring in the background.

how to design around floor standing speakers?

I have a set of B&W 9nt floor standing speakers and I was wondering how to design an entertaiment center around them. I have been to numerous places and nothing seems to look right. Answers with pics a plus or to a web page with pics.
thanks

These are nice speakers so I dont think I would be interested in hiding them. People are really wow'd when they hear them. I am just looking for good look.

I was wondering if they are detachable from the stands, if so you could maybe set them on the floor or put them on top of the e'center. Another solution is to maybe get 2 tall fake plants (fig trees, palms...) to put in front of them to hide them. You can use a longer speaker wire to move them to another area.

how do i connect some kef floor standing speakers to my samsung LCD TV?

i have kef speakers and whant to put them to my tv. but do i need an amp and how do i connect the amp to my tv?

you will need a amp/receiver the Sony STRDG510 is a good choice at £199.99 at richer sounds if you can afford it go for the onkyo tx sr605 at £399.99 both have hdmi inputs and out

you better off getting a good amp/receiver to make use of the kef floor standing speaker to its full potential. I have the Kef Q7 floorstanding connected to the onkyo 605 and they sound superb.

as for hdmi connect 1 from your dvd/blu ray player to the receiver then hdmi out to your tv.

some amp/receivers will need the hdmi and optical cable to get picture and sound. The onkyo do both from the hdmi.
Also banana plugs to attach the speaker cables to your receiver. Cost about £5.00 a pair or go to ebay you will get some good ones on there 10 plugs for less than £7

Good luck with your choice

How do i use my vintage floor standing speakers?

thats what it looks like. all it has on the back is the red and black thing shown in the pic. It does not look like a port to me, and i dont know how to use it.
the red and black thing is not like a regular port. it does not fit in flushly at all.

The red and black connections are for speaker wire, and there will be corresponding red and black connectors on the back of the amplifier/receiver. Speaker wire, whatever the colour, has one plain coloured wire and one with a black stripe. This is how you use the connectors.

Bare the ends of both wires, take off about 8-10mm of the plastic cover and twist the bare end of each wire so you don't get any strands of wire sticking out. Take the plain coloured wire and hold down the little red tab on the back of the speaker. Push the bare end of the plain coloured wire into the little hole just above the tab. Let go of the tab. It will spring back up and hold the bare part of the wire tightly. Make sure that there are no strands of bare wire hanging out. Now do the same with the wire which has the black stripe. Put that into the black connector on the speaker.

Now connect the other ends of the wires to the amplifier in exactly the same way - plain colour to red, striped wire to black.

By the way, that's a very fine pair of speakers you have there, even by today's standards.

How do in the ceiling speakers compare to floor standing speakers rs for surround sound home theater.?

Can you plce the center chanel in the ceiling and not have the front and rear speakers drown them out.

It really doesn't make much sense. You would get a much better audio experience if they're at ear level. Slightly above or below - the point of a center console is that it gives the illusion that the sound is coming from the video. For the most part, the closer the direction of the sound the better the sound. Above? not so much.

  • Garmin Nuvi 1200 Review: CD Racks and Floor Standing Speakers

What are CD racks and loudspeaker have in common, you may ask? Well, if you want your music then two of the biggest items that you go on your own (or aspire to own), some floor standing and storage of CD's. These two items need to worry, because otherwise be selected as the basis of electronic products (amplifiers and CD players), these two will be with you for a long time. Not only that, but they are also large pieces of furniture should be chosen with the same carethat you go to vote any other furniture in your home.

Technically, I know that does not have speakers electronic systems, but the electronic systems are truly strong in them changed in the last twenty years, and it is unlikely to be in the next twenty. So, if you were looking for some speakers, then you have to bare this end. Spend more of your budget on speakers than you on your amplifier and CD player, because they definitely survive CD player, and maybe even your amp. TheHas difficulties with the selection of speakers and that there will always be made a difficult decision - you'll find some great looking speakers that sound OK, or you'll find some fantastic speakers, see the dire look. But then that is a part of the fun.
