Any German speakers want to help me learn German?

I'm a linguistics student in the US, and I've started out trying to learn German. Right now, I'm using 'l'allemand sans peine' and FSI German courses. I'd really like to speak with actual German speakers though, as it's different than learning from a book and audio.

Du koenntest auch in einen deutschen Chatraum gehen und dort mit anderen Deutschen chatten. Das hilft Dir dann auch weiter. Viel Spass beim lernen. Gruss Priscilla

What is the correct German pronunciation?

I learnt that every German word ending in "~ig" is pronunced as /~ich/, not as/~ik/. And the German /ich/ is totally different from the English /ich/.
For example, zwanzig (20) = zwanzich, Koennig (king) = Koennich
But the "native" German speakers say "zwanzik" and "Koennik" respectively in the audio CD of my German textbook.
Is that also a correct pronunciation in modern German?

I was in southern German (Baden-Würtemburg) and they mostly say with the "ich" sound at the end. But also some may say with the actual "ig" sound and I suppose "ik" would be another variation. The variations are all just regional differences.

Interestingly enough, in southern Germany you would here people say (most of the time) "ge-" prefix as it is spelled like gegessen, gegongen, etc. but in some parts of northern Germany it may sound more like "yegessen" "yegongen" because they are just saying it more "lazily" than others. Just like the English language used to have "y" prefixes, but people eventually just dropped it because it was kind of useless and time consuming.

Wow that's a weird problem. I'm more interested in knowing how you got your hands on a German copy of Windows when you don't speak German. Aren't you afraid if you got your speakers to work that all the songs you played would be in German? Just a thought.
