I'm looking to replace all 4 speakers in my car (only one of four has been blown but, I figure I mine as well replace all four)
What defines good car stereo speakers?
What brands should I avoid all together?
What defines a good speaker is how you like how it sounds.
Go to your local shop and grab a listen. Your ears will thank you.

I have a completely stock 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 reg cab and was wanting to redo the speakers and stereo. Also please include price. Under $1000 total would be nice.

I'm putting together a stereo system (with phonograph/CD/cassette/TV set, etc.) and would like some opinions on good sounding speaker brands. I understand I won't know for sure unless I listen to them myself but, I'd like to know what any of you might have bought and enjoy using.
BIC Acoustotech HT-75 Towers: $280 for the pair!! These are an example of speakers that sound 10 times better than Bose, but cost one tenth the price. Your choice.

I'm in the market to get a pair of front channel speakers and as luck would have it there is a lot out there that plays music! Unfortunately, I'm trying to find the best bang for my buck.
Bose? Klipsch? Denon? Sony?
I have heard that if your center channel sucks, there is no point getting great front channels... which is fine, maybe I'll get a center while I'm at it!
I listed those companies just as examples. The consensus seems to be that I definately need to hear the speakers so that I make sure I get what I'm looking for. I was maninly hoping to get ideas of what companies always had a really solid, quality product.
I've gotten several companies to look into, and I know to definately avoid Bose.
What about SDAT, Premiere Acoustic, and BIC?
i don't honestly know how much you are looking to spend....but I can suggest the following....which is kind of an unwritten law concerning audio equipment....the company that makes CD players makes excellent CD players...the amplifier company is great at amplifiers...etc., etc., down to the speaker company makes great speakers...
Denon speakers are really based on their professional line of equipment.
If you are looking for THE MOST bang for your buck....and have space for a small-ish (meaning footprint) speaker....I would look at the following...
http://www.legacy-audio.com/classicmain. html
With the Legacy Classic...you will get a true, full-range, top to bottom reproduction of the music and movies without having to place subwoofers in the room as their frequency response is down to 28 Hz.
If you don't want to spend THAT much money...I would go with Definitive Technology speakers.
http://www.definitivetech.com/
Good luck....
If so, any suggestions on where to look?
Or should I just buy them new?
Yes, I have had good luck with used speakers. Here are a few tips:
Buy from a person who is an "audiophile" ie someone who is really into pure music and is maybe upgrading, stay away from the college grad who is 'getting rid' of his speakers. don't buy from Garage sales... no self respecting audiophile puts his speakers in the garage :)
Ebay is a good source too
stick to the mid range to higher end speakers... RBH, Atlantic technology, Celestion, B&W .... those kinds of speakers were manufactured to last.
Also check out sound & vision, or Home theater magazines, you'll find ads in there in the back pages (at least they used to be)
