A question about t.v. and a high quality stereo!?

I'm not really good with wires and stuff.
Is it possible to somehow connect a wire or something to a simple television and hook it up to a really good stereo so I can switch the sound from the tv to the stereo. The reason I want to do this is to get a better sound quality for a ps2 game. The speakers in the tv aren't as good as a high quality stereo. Is there anyway to connect the tv and speaker together so I hear sound come from my stereo rather than the junky speakers inside the tv???

put playstation red& white rca jacks directly into back of stereo into input aux or anything not in use dvd cd vcr

Help on buying a new high quality stereo system for listening to music, and then movies?

Hi all,

I'm sorry if you get this question all the time but I would really appreciate any advice from all you audiophiles out there,

I'm in the market for a high quality stereo system, my primary usage would be for listening to music, and then secondly for watching movies/tv.

My initial interest lied in a Yamaha home theatre surround sound system, Yamaha because I've only ever had good experiences with their audio products, and surround sound because I thought that would be the most appropriate. However I've recently stumbled across an article that suggests surround sound for music playback isn't at all appropriate, and really only suits movie playback.

I am after a basic recommendation for what style system would provide the best audio performance, which for me as a novice would be audio clarity, sound range, and power etc. Would the best option be to invest in an awesome amp and front speakers/sub and forgot about the other stereo components? Alternatively is there a good medium between both music and movies that doesn't involve a performance loss.

My price range would be around $2000, but if need be I can increase it to secure a great deal, anything up to $3000.

Also what is everyone else's opinion on Yamaha? Is it just me or are they regarded as decent products.

Stay with a Yamaha receiver. JBL or Infinity would be great choices for speakers.

Can anyone recommend a high quality used home stereo amplifier?

I'd like to spend between $150 and $300, probably on Ebay. Looking for a very reputable mark like Luxman, Marantz, etc. My speaker system consists of two oldish Bose speakers and a JBL subwoofer. Thanks!

I would go to http://www.audiogon.com

As stated above, this is my FAVORITE site. Yes...I'm one of the 'audiophiles'. That's why my stereo cost more than my Cadillac.

Anyway....try looking into the following equipment....

NAD 3150 (50 watt integrate, but do NOT be fooled by the rating)
NAD 3020 (20 watt integrate, same as above)
Adcom - GFA 535, 545, 555 (fantastic, affordable, high current amps)

But your best bet for a around $400 (I know it's a bit higher than you are looking to spend) would be look into Bryston 2B (60 watts) or 3B (100 watts). Not the NRB, ST or SST. Just the plain 2B or 3B.

Even if they are older amps...do not worry...they have a 20 year transferable warranty on them and Bryston is FANTASTIC should you need the service.

Enjoy your system and good luck finding an amp that you LOVE.

If you hook up new speakers with higher watts to an old stereo system, will the sound quality be not as good?

I want to buy new speakers that are 2 channel and maybe 125w or 250w and hook them up to my old stereo that was originally 50w...my question is: will the new speakers not be used to their full capacity since its an old stereo?

No, the sound quality won't be diminished.

Wattage rating on speakers simply tells you how much power they can take before being damaged. 50 watts will make most speakers unbearably loud.

Additional wattage from an amplifier does provide more headroom for transients, but the improvement is very subtle, few people can hear it.

The biggest improvement you can make in sound quality is buying better speakers, the audible difference between electronic components is far less obvious.

Stereo Sounds like?

Would a set of high quality speakers, lets hypothetically say Bose sound just as good on a medium quality stereo(Kenwood)as they would on a high quality stereo(Bose,JBL). Even if the med quality stereo has the same Puissance, Impedance, OHM's and "Total Harmonic Distotion Ratio %?"

Bose is a bad example because they don't sound good on any system. A high quality speaker will draw attention to the flaws of the amplifier. I would get cheap speakers with cheap amp, expensive speakers with expensive amp. To mix the two would be to defeat your purpose.
