My home audio equipment

Here I show you guys what audio equipment I use. I get questions about it a lot so I figured what the hell.

Home audio system with car audio equipment?
ZR Prestige 18 DD

I want to create a speaker system that i could hook up to my computer with speakers, amp, subwoofer that are for car audio. where would i go to do this?

It would be cheaper and sound better to just get a home theater system.

However...

You will need a pretty hefty power supply. A 13.8 volt 25 ampere supply will power a 300 watt RMS total system at a cost of about $100. You'll need another supply for the HU. It can be 10 amps.

want to use car audio equipment for home use?
ZR Extravagance Saturn

i want to build a good stereo system with good bass. but for a decent stereo system its reli expensive. i have 4 6x9 speakers kicking about. along with a sony head unit. and a 12 sub. i was wondering if id be able to wire it all up for home use? if so wat would i need? any help or guidence would be great :) x

You could use 12volt rails of a computer power supply.
This one has a 22amp rail and a 30amp rail. The 22 amp rail can easily run your head unit. The 30amp rail could power your sub amp if it's a smaller one that uses less than 30 amps. That would be roughly 350-400 watts depending on the efficiency of the amp.

Is it possible to take the audio output from a computer to a normal in wall speaker? What equipment is needed?
ZR Prestige CX-2

I'm trying to help my dad with his home audio because there is no radio stations that broadcast near us. But when he bought the house it came with an old in wall speaker system.

sounds like you need an 1/8th inch to 1/4 inch converter (converts the little headphone plug to a big headphone plug) and a reciever. go out from your computer into the receiver, and hook the wall speakers to the reciever.

What are the basic equipment of a home audio system setup?
ZR Extravagance ZR-1

preamp, amp, receiver, watts over speaker limit, under speaker limit, subwoofer

What are all these things. What's the difference between an amp and a preamp? Is a receiver an amp with a radio tuner (with a preamp as well?) ?

What happens when you go over the speaker's watt limit? Do you blow the speaker?

I'm not making this up, but there was some article that said if you go under the wattage of a speaker That could Actually DAMAGE your speaker saying it's unconventional wisdom but true.

Is it necessary to get a subwoofer? If you don't get a subwoofer, do your speakers do the work?

Pardon my language but HOW THE HELL are you going to choose a good pair of speakers when there are an infinite number of brands all purporting to be high class?

Thanks that's all I can think of?

I understand your frustration. Each question you asked is worthy of a white-paper but let me give you the basics.

Pre-Amp vs Receiver:

A Receiver is electronics and an amplifier in 1 box. High end music systems often have the electronics in a separate box so they can upgrade the amp section. The electronics box is called the 'preamp'.

Most home theater systems use a "Receiver" because you dont need lots of power for a circle of 5 speakers.

POWER AND SPEAKERS

Yes - you can damage speakers by under-powering them. But speakers are rated for a wide range of power. As long as you buy name-brand amps (Yamaha, Dennon, Onkyo, Pioneer) and name brand speakers - you usually wont have much trouble powering them.

IS NOT AN EXACT THING - matching power and speakers.

SUBWOOFER:

Low frequency sounds take a LOT more power to produce than higher frequency sounds. Your fathers speakers had 3 drivers inside and were called "full-range" because they had a large woofer. They also took a lot of power and the higher frequency sounds suffered because of the woofer.

The location of the left/right speakers is usually NOT the best for smooth bass response in a room. Add the need for a 5-channel speaker system and the better systems are called "Sub-Sat". This is a good subwoofer and 5 monitor style speakers in a circle around a few chairs.

A "Sub-Sat" system puts a cheap-but-powerful amp in the sub, and this frees up the receiver power for the other speakers. A good 80 watt-per-channel receiver works great for this application.

I have 50-300 watt speakers and my 80 watt per channel Yamaha drives them very well.

    Home Theater Speaker Placement

I had rearranged the seating for our home theater. My home theater system includes a 120-inch screen, a Panasonic AE3000 rear projector, five B&W 600 series speakers (1 center, 2 tower, 2 surround), an SVSound PB-13 Ulta subwoofer. The system is powered by a top-of-the-line Pioneer Elite AV receiver and a Sony Blu-Ray player.

The environment is not operating in a specially constructed room although it is located in a very large area — roughly 1,200 square feet with 9-foot ceiling. With such a large space, the acoustics are fine and the overall experience is just a lot of fun. We rarely head out to the cineplex.

When the seating was changed, I thought I should check the speaker placement. It was in rather poor shape for some reason. I am usually quite obsessive about placement and alignment and I remain perplexed as to what happened.
