What is the best impedance level for a home audio system's speakers?
Sri Lanka Advertising www.anything.lk Colombo Real Estate Computers Electronics Vehicles Home Appliances

I am thinking of getting a new home audio system, and I was wondering what I should look for in the impedance of my reciever's output and speakers.

I know it's measured in Ohms, usually 4,6, or 8, but which would give the best perfomance? I'm looking for the most accurate audio reproduction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I'm not looking to spend over $600 for the system. The best impedance rating withing this budget...

8 ohms is pretty much standard. 6 ohms is fine too. 4 ohm speakers will be easier to drive, but may cause some amplifiers to overheat...

Please Help Me Choose the Best Home Audio System. (Speakers and Receiver)?

I'm in the market for an home audio system to go with Samsung UN55B8000. Finding the right TV wasn't so hard, I'm having a very hard time choosing between audio systems.

I plan to listen to music from time to time, however the main function will be movies, TV (Mostly Sports) and games.

The TV is around 10' from viewing position in a 10' high ceiling living room.
I don't know if that's even relevant when choosing a sound system, but I thought it might matter for better acoustics.

Should I even consider a 7.1 system?
I never even considered a 7.1 system, until I began my search.
It seems like I could end up kicking myself later on, if I don't get a 7.1 system now.
I plan to keep this entire home theater system for a long time, perhaps until there's another ground breaking change in entertainment systems, like HDTV.

My price range is around $2,000, however I'm willing to take recommendations over my range, if the extra cost is justified.
I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I do have ears and I'd like to pick the best audio system for my price range. :)

I have looked into Klipsch and Definitive Technology speakers.
For receiver, I've looked into Onkyo, Denon and Pioneer.
Here are links to specific models, I've considered.

Please help me choose the right system.
Any recommendations, help, advice, etc will be appreciated.
Please, please do not reply with a simple brand name or model, this wouldn't help me much at all.

Thank you in advance! :)
Home theater system will be placed in a 15' x 20' living area, but the area extends to dining room, kitchen, hallway, etc.
What I mean is that the area is in the open and not closed with walls.

Do you like mine?I think Onkyo 806 is too much for you, how big is your room? If you are ok with 90 watts why go for 130, mine is OnkyoTX-SR605 and the speakers are all JBL I made the installation , wires inside the walls, everything a $600 value. E mail me if you like it. I guarantee you this toy sounds great!
You can get the receiver online if you want to, I got it in a store (Miami) and the speakers in Best Buy, waiting for a coupon or a sale, saved few hundreds.

What is the best home audio system with in ceiling speakers for under $1000?

I'm on a limited budget, but would like to get a nice home audio system for my family room. I need to have the surround speakers in the ceiling. Should I buy a complete system or maybe piece on together? Thanks!

Hi. you can buy a complete system which is a home theater in a box, but you would not get the flexibility and sound quality of a system put together with some of the best components from different manufacturers.Ok,so we know your budget. If you could let me know if you want 5 speakers and a subwoofer (5.1) or 7 speakers and a subwoofer(7.1) ?Any particular brand of Receiver ? What Source are you using or going to buy ? (DVD/CD Player,Satellite,Tuner,Turntable)
Loudspeakers all vary in their sound quality. Some are bright sounding , others emphasise the bass frequencies while some have a fairly neutral sound meaning the do not favour any part of the frequency range. These tend to be more expensive than the others but are easier to live with .They reproduce all kinds of music equally well.

Other people on Answers will tell you to spend the most money on speakers and to get them first but that is not the way to go if you want the best sound for your budget.

The Source is the most important part because this is where the signal,( which has been retrieved from the software) is converted into an electrical equivalent and sent to the Pre-Amplifier.(or the Pre-Amp section of a Receiver) to be amplified enough to send to the Power Amplifiers (or the Power-Amp section of a Receiver) The Power Amps amplify the signal enough to be sent to the Loudspeakers.
This is how the signal travells through all of the components and only in this direction. The point is the signal can never be improved within the chain once it has started. It can only be maintained or degraded.Audio and Video reproduction is a damage control job.If we don't get quality information from the Source.....the Pre-Amp,Power Amps, and the Speakers cannot improve the signal. What is generated from the Source component will be reproduced ,but not improved in the chain. Therefore the goal is to change the signal as little as possible.

HELP !!! "Clicking" noise coming from home audio speakers?

I have a home audio surround system. Yamaha reciever and Klipsh speakers. I constantly have a "Clicking/Ticking" sound coming from the speakers when the system is on. What could it be from, and how do I get rid of it.

It sounds like your speaker wire is not connected securely. Make sure all wires are not loose. If any wires are touching the opposite polarity (plus connections and minus connections), the problems of sound and safety will occur. Make sure these connections are separated with all your speakers and you will protection your receiver and speakers from potential damage. And you will have effectively stopped the clicking sound.

How does impedance relate to sound quality in home audio speakers?

I am in need of new speakers for my new home theater system, however as tech savy as I am, speakers are not my forte. The current speakers I run are 8 Ohm impedance, 150W, 91DB Sound pressure, with 36Hz-22Khz range. These are Onkyo Fusion AVs. I need a good pair of slim line speakers, and I have found a few that I like however I am not sure how they compare with my current set.

Can somone please explain to me which of these statistics should be lower, and which should be higher for optimal sound quality.

Thanks!

You want your speakers to handle your system's output power, so you'll need at least 150W speakers.

The 91 dB sound pressure is an indication of the efficiency of the speakers. Higher is more efficient, lower is less efficient. Remember that dB is logarithmic, so a 3 dB change is a factor of 2 (88 dB uses twice the power to sound as loud as your 91 dB speakers).

A key spec of the frequency range was left out, and that is the variation from one frequency to another -- i.e. +/- 3 dB. Ideally, you'd like +/- 0 dB so all frequencies would sound the same with the same power input, but that's not going to happen, so most spec how close they come to the ideal. A speaker with +/- 0.5 dB across the frequency range will sound far more accurate that one that is +/- 3 dB (remember that 3 dB is a factor of 2).

The wider and flatter (+/- 0dB) the frequency range, the better.

Impedance by itself generally doesn't relate to sound quality; you just need to match your amplifier's preference for best results.

But remember that the specs are the manufacturer's specs, not independently certified specs. You'd do well to consult audio review magazines for their test results of the speakers you're thinking of instead of believing the manufacturer's specs. They aren't perfect, either, but they will probably be more objective than the OEM.
