Home Stereo Speakers

I have home speakers I bought in the mid '90's and used until my stereo receiver died. Now I use my laptop for the music. How can I connect the two? The Cerwin-Vegas have great sound that no computer speakers have ever come close to.

You really need to get a new receiver. Then you can just plug your laptop into the aux in.

What's the model number of the Cerwins? They're my favorite brand. Excellent low end. I have a set of DX9's that I have had since 1993. They are irreplacable. I use DX1's for my center and surround speakers. Needless to say I don't need a subwoofer...

I recently connected my PC to my home stereo (5.1 surround sound). It is connected from a digital output on the back of my PC to a digital input on the stereo receiver via a coaxial cable. While it sounds great when playing movies/music through the surround sound, the connection has made my PC speakers obsolete, and now any sound (including windows shutdown music) is blasted through the home stereo speakers. My question is, is there a way to automatically switch between PC speakers and home stereo speakers without manually unplugging the cable every time?

Your PC audio card should have some sort of an application to control audio out. It is usually under the Start->Control panel -> Sound or it may be a separate application.

I have a very old Panasonic home stereo system and some huge floor- standing speakers. I would like to replace the floor-standing speakers with some shelf speakers. What specifications should I look for to ensure that I don't destroy my system?

i would check the impedance for the speakers, it should be on the back where you hook them up, it should be measured in ohms and the symbol should look like a horse shoe.

Is there a device that will convert my existing home stereo speakers into wireless? I have a pretty good quality surround sound system, but I am tired of the speaker wires . I need to go wireless, but I want to use my existing speakers. Anyone have any ideas????

The previous responder obviously missed the January 2008 issue of "Home Theater" magazine, which discusses exactly the kind of gear you're looking for.

I have a set of turntables that I scratch with, and I was wondering if I could somehow connect them to a pair of home stereo speakers? Each speakers has a red and black wire. The turntables have a wire with a gray head and an orange head...
Can I do this?

you'll need an amp, that has a "phono" input
if you're using real records

they have a lot of the low end EQ'd out, to keep the gooves small,
so if you plug a turntable into an amp without the "phono" input, it will not sound very good
it's called the "RIAA EQUALIZATION CURVE"
