Hi do I need " Home Audio Receiver" if I want to hook up surround sound speakers for home theater?
Sony Bravia BDV-E280 (BDVE280/BDV-E280CEK/BDVE280CEK)

Hi I want to upgrade my HDTV & I want buy home surround sound speakers from Bose. It has 5 speakers & it cost $499.99. If I decide to buy it, do I also need to buy a "Home Audio Receiver" too?

Thank you! :)

For clarification you will need a "Home Theater Receiver". A Home Audio Receiver is typically two channels only, a left and a right. A Home Theater Receiver has five to seven channels of decoding. Five channels is the minimal industry standard of surround sound.
Look for a home theater receiver that decodes both Dobly digital and DTS audio. Most in todays stores will do this.
Keep in mind that surround sound only works with DVDs and a few movies that air on premium networks and some HD channels. Most television shows are recorded in stereo which is a left and right channel only.
Once you have a home theater receiver, you will need the front left, center, right , right surround, and left surroundspeakers to consider plus a subwoofer that you will need.
After that the DVD player will round out one of the final pieces of equipment you will need other than your tv.

Hi I want to buy home theater surround sound speakers. If there anything that I should know?
Sony Bravia BDV-E280 (BDVE280/BDV-E280CEK/BDVE280CEK)

Hi I was thinking buying home theater surround sound speakers at Bestbuy. I am only thinking spending $600 or less & maybe Bose it is a good choice. Ok is there anything that I should I know before I buy one? Example, like warranty,HDMI port, supports True HD Sound or DTS? Thank you.
Yes I do need Audio receiver & 5 or 7 speakers.

First of all, Best Buy, not so good. You could likely do better, with a wider choice of good quality speaker makers, by looking for gear on amazon.com. Plus, they offer free shipping on some equipment, and usually it also means no sales tax (Unless you live in NY State).
Now, do you need a home theatre receiver *and* a set of HT speakers, or just the speakers ?
On amazon, you can get a great Polk 5.1 speaker system, #6750, 6 speakers, list price $600, for about $250. If you need to make that into a 7.1 system, just add two more Polk speakers, such as the #6751s for about $60 each.
They have available 7.1 receivers such as the Onkyo TX-SR575, list price $400, for $220.36, with free shipping.
In speakers, Polk, Infinity & JBL are really good brands, and in receivers, Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, and Onkyo are among the best for good quality.
So, if you got the items that I listed, you'd have a name brand system, with 8 speakers and a great 7.1 receiver, for just about $600.
Bose is good, but its way overpriced. You pay for their name and their styling.
Buying new from amazon gets you full manufacturers warranties, and the rest is what you want your gear to have. So, if you want HDMI connections, them read the product descriptions so as to see how many ins and outs of each type the receivers that you look at have. The speakers only will have their standard connections. With them, get some good quality standard 16 gauge speaker wire. Theres no need for expensive premium wires.

How can you turn your car amp and speakers into a home surround sound system?
Sony Bravia BDV-E280 (BDVE280/BDV-E280CEK/BDVE280CEK)

My husband is wanting to turn his car amp and speakers into a home surround sound system. Is there a way of going about that? Is there any specials cables or hook ups that he may need?

Not very practical. Nobody mentioned the biggest problem: coming up with a way to power the car sound gear. Power supplies capable of powering a big car amp are expensive. The alternative is to use a 12V battery hooked to a constant charger; the battery will handle the brief demands for high currents which would otherwise require a massive Astron power supply. A clever person might use a computer UPS for this purpose, since they mostly contain 12V sealed batteries and the necessary charger in one convenient beige box. You 'd need to be careful that the 12V negative is at ground potential so as to avoid sparks and possible death...

Now that he's completely discouraged... there are some positive things: I picked up two car surround processors from the clearance table at a local car audio store for only $25 each. ...in spite of all the in-car video systems, very few people install real surround sound, so there may be other deals like that out there.

The other possibility is the subwoofer(s). Certain subwoofer drivers are excellent for both car and home use. It'll help to use an enclosure design program to see if his subs are suitable.

Apart from that... if he wants cheap speakers for surround sound, cruise yard sales, thrift stores, flea markets. People are practically giving away some excellent stereo speakers because they've bought nasty home-theater-in-a-box systems. It's not a big problem if they don't all match; even identical speakers can sound very different depending on where they are located in the room, so don't sweat it. If you get sufficiently big speakers, you may find the subwoofer isn't necessary.

Can I use my home theater surround sound speakers (Samsung) with my turntables successfully in my apartment?

Why don't you try them both.

Home theatre surround sound speakers, wireless, best value?
Sony Bravia BDV-E280 (BDVE280/BDV-E280CEK/BDVE280CEK)

Looking for opinions on the best home theatre surround sound speakers to purchase. 5-in-1 (5.1), wireless preferrably if affordable. $300.00 is about my limit. Thank you.
I just read wireless speakers aren't so hot for sound. Anyone know of some good floor or free standing speakers I could add to the surround speakers for general CD playing?
Thank you. But if an entire sysem, with receiver, is only 250.00, the speakers probably aren't that great, and the speakers, for a good system, should cost about 50 percent or more of the entire home theatre purchase.

In that price range you probably won't get wireless(my sony wireless speaker set up cost me 2k).Go to Best buy, there are a lot of good systems for that price. I prefer Yahmaha.

  • Wireless Home Theater: The Sound Devices Of The Future

With wireless home theater speakers you won’t have to contend with placing the speakers within a restricted area, which is otherwise dependent on the length of connecting wires. Not having wires to connect the speakers will allow you to place the speakers wherever you wish without having any ugly wires that need to be hidden. You can choose between two different types of wireless home theater speakers – the add-on and the integrated systems.

Add-On  vs. Integrated Wireless Home Theater Speaker Systems

For those that already own a home theater, there is always the possibility of purchasing other add-on components including transmitters; receivers as well as of course, surround sound speakers. With these add-ons installed, the transmitter that is connected to the amplifier emits audio signals to the receiver that sends these signals to the speakers. The cost of such add-ons should generally not exceed hundred dollars.
