Home Speakers Answers
When the speakers are on, you can hear the radio, but its not connected to any radio reciever, just the DVD player and the subwoofer, this is a Coby home theater system, with dvd player, a sub and two speakers. It works well, just has the radio background which is annoying. I've looked for answers but cannot find anything exactly with what I need. Can anybody help me?
Yes, you are picking up radio waves from your system. There
are devices to filter out these interferences. See my source...
Ask the people from Crutchfield or Parts Express, and they will
get you the right item to fix your problem. Or, just go to your lo-
cal Radio Shack and they will have what you need as well.

Here i give a closeup of my primary Home Theater Speakers, explain each speaker model, and play a musical piece that shows how amazing these ...
I have the Coby 5.1 Channel home theater speaker system. I hooked it up but I only hear sound from the front left and front right speakers. Should I be hearing sound from the center and surround left and right speakers as well?
all depends on what settings are on. there should be a button on the actual reciever and the remote to switch the different types of sound that could be played and what speakers are to be used. ALTHOUGH, the reason you may have all of the speakers activated and you only hear audio from the from front left, middle, and front right, is because the channel or movie that you are playing does not have 5.1 audio. meaning only the front will work and possibly the back but it will play the exact same audio as the front only a lot quieter. every movie is now made at least 5.1 so no worries with that. television channels do not ALL include 5.1, but some may!
hope that helped a little!

Yamaha Home Theater.....running cable for the back speakers is really gonna be tough....and wireless looks like it might be an option.
I found one at Circuit City ...(doesn't look like you can hook speakers to receiving unit)
and heres another at Best Buy cheaper and it does have the speaker connectors
The one at Best buy looks like a better deal. and has good reviews

A friend of my husband's installed our inexpensive home theater system as a favor. He has the wires for the speakers (mounted around the room) coming up out of the vents in the floor. Granted, the vents are in a good spot for speaker placement. But is this a fire hazard?
Under most circumstances the risk of fire due to a short in loudspeaker cables is virtually non-existent.
If your loudspeaker cables use the typical PVC insulation found on most lower-cost or generic A/V cabling then you do run a somewhat higher risk of developing a problem. Prolonged or repeated exposure to elevated temperature and airflow rates can, over time, result in degradation of the PVC insulation in large part due to plasticizer migration and volatility. This can lead to increased brittleness and crazing in the exposed portion of the insulation, which could eventually result in failure of the insulation.
Under these circumstances the most likely result is that the protection circuit that protects the output stage of the audio amplifier would kick-in, or worse, the output stage of the amplifier could self-destruct; depending on how well the unit was designed and built. There are very few (well-designed) audio amplifiers that would pose a fire hazard when the speaker outputs are shorted.
You have a couple of fairly simple choices to effectively mitigate the threat of potential problems: (1) replace the loudspeaker cabling with either a jacketed loudspeaker cabling or use polyolefin (i.e., polypropylene) insulated cables; or (2) install 1/2" to 1" diameter plenum rated or riser-rated halogen-free (aka low smoke zero halogen or LSZH) nonmetallic corrugated flexible conduit (aka “innerduct,”) over the (speaker) cabling wherever the cabling passes through the air ducting. Electrical and datacom/telecom suppliers, better hardware stores and A/V dealers/installers should have innerduct in stock.
One last item - you can reduce the amount of self-heating that occurs with higher cable resistances by choosing loudspeaker cabling that has a larger wire gauge. Speaker cabling is generally available in stock wire gauge sizes ranging from 4 AWG up to 16 AWG and higher; the lower the number the larger the gauge of wire. As a general rule of thumb you should always use the lowest wire gauge you can afford and never less than a single run of 14 AWG cable. Though rarely a significant issue, self-heating varies in direct proportion to the cable’s resistance, (which increases as the wire gauge decreases, i.e., smaller overall conductor cross-sectional area and/or the cable length increases,) the impedance of the loudspeaker and the power output of the audio amplifier.

I have no clue what type of connection the Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers are.
All speakers need two wires to work; positive and negative one.
One manufacturer blurp is to tell you this: always connect the positive wire to the postive output on the amplifier and the negative to the negative output on the amplifier respectively. But really, should you?
No! Not necessary! Its main purpose is to prevent 'short circuiting' the speaker and amplifier, which can result in explosion or fire.
That's because as long one wire goes through the positive and the other negative output on the amplifier, the speaker and amplifier should work fine.
Important note though: make sure the speaker impedance is supported by the amplifier and that the speaker supports more than the maximum power supplied by the amplifier.
So, modern theatre speakers have clips so that the two wires seems to be one. Just cut the end of the wire, not so close to the clip so you can always 'reconnect' them in the future, snapped them and separate the two wires so you can easily connect later, and then cut off a small portion of the wire head to expose the internal wiring.
There you go. Your Samsung speakers should now be easily connected via 2-input/output wiring on the Onkyo amplifier.
Again. Make sure the Onkyo support the impedance of the Samsung speaker, cause many modern theatre speakers have super low impedance of 2-4ohms, which on amplifiers that support 8-12ohms, you could be firing up the amplifier with heat which will do permanent damage to it.
Hope it helps.
