House Audio Speakers

I have speaker wire ran throughout my house by a company before I moved in,and I want to hook everything up. I have volume control wire in a two by four box on the wall and the speakers go in the ceiling. where can I go to figure out how to hook up speakers and everything up to my stereo equipment.

Call the company that ran the wire. They would be the only people who would know where they left the open wires to access the speakers. Possibly in a closet, or coming up through the floor. But only the people that did the job would know.

Here is my goal, ( please don't just say buy a radio, the boomboxes made today sound like crap ) I work in the construction field, I want to build some sort of boombox myself to take with me on job sites. I could probably rig up some logitech computer speakers but what I would like to do is rig up like two good quality 6x9's , option 1: just the speakers and amp so I can plug my mp3 player into it. option 2: speakers, amp, and car cd receiver. Now the problem to figure out, How can I do this , How do I convert the power correctly ? I have read not just any power converter will work. Example, .... 2 6x9 speakers, 100 watt amp, the car receiver, How can I know or measure what kind of power converter I would need ?? Any ideas please, thanks , ....... even if I can just rig up two good sounding 6x9's to plug my mp3 player into would rock also. Last question, any ideas on how volume control would work with this ?

the other computer does have audio, it says audio device called, "SoundMAX Digital Audio".......why does the computer without audio say no audio device????

I am thinking about setting up a whole house wireless audio system from scratch that is driven by music sitting on the computer in my den. I have been looking into buying several Apple Airport Expresses for each room and then connecting them to my computer. I also saw the Bose Wireless systems which sounds easier to setup but it only supports ONE speaker/room and I am looking at more than one. Are there other better (even cheaper) options? Thanks.

Take a look at the Sonos stuff. It's really flexible and works with mac or pc and a wireless router.

Networked Mac Mini's in each room are a good approach (but a little pricey) and even less expensive would be networked Apple TV's. I have an apple tv in my media center connected via hardwired ethernet, but the built-in wireless works as well. It gives me direct access to my iTunes library and it can either pull content from iTunes, or be used as a "speaker" where iTunes pushes content to it (which is the mode I use to feed music to my hardwired whole house audio system). The apple tv can also store content on it's hard drive as well for local access. The advantage to the Apple TV approach is that it serves video as well so you could be in your master bedroom and watch a movie stored on your computer or rent a movie via the Apple TV connection to the iTunes store right from the bedroom.
Sounds like a fun project.

WOW! Some of these answers.

If the power supply you have has enough current to push the system, sure.

The problem is finding a 13.8 Volt DC power supply that can supply such current.

Just to give you an example, a 25 ampere 13.8 volt Dc supply will power a 150 watt RMS total system at the cost of $75-$100 just for the supply.
