I have a HP Pavilion laptop. I'm having a party at my house and would like to play the music off my iTunes in my laptop, but the speakers are not loud enough, so I want to connect stereo system speakers, is it possible? I don't have them yet, but wanting to buy them, any suggestions on which speaker outlets would work, etc.
This is an easy one but you will need more than just speakers. You will need a stereo or reciever as you will need something capable of powering the speakers. Or, you could purchase powered speakers such as computer speakers but I can almost promise that it won't be loud enough for a party. If you have a stereo already you can simply look for an "in" or "input" on the back. Ideally, this would be a red and a white set of "RCA" connectors. You would get an RCA to stereo mini Y adapter that will allow you to connect the stereo to the laptops speaker jack. This works great. I have my computer connected to a ridiculous home theater system and can do the same with my laptop.
A really nice stereo system with cool cassette design. Jacob Smith, a 1970s stereo CAN sound good!
I have an HP a1740n and am dying to figure this out. I tried an 80's stereo amp and got very little sound and much more crackle. Any ideas?
A stereo 1/8" plug to dual RCA plug patchcord between your computer's output and a receiver or integrated amp works nicely. Any crackle would be from a bad connection, bad amp, bad settings in the Windows Mixer (clipping). Well... There can be quite a bit of background noise with cheap, built-in sound devices like your HP uses in it's stock form... Maybe that's what you were hearing. Can sound like crackling etc... when system noise from your computer bleeds through. Installing a better sound card would help in that case... or using an external USB sound card...
For the best sounding music... I'd recommend the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 internal PCI card... or an external USB sound card with a good built-in D/A converter. Music oriented sound cards usually let you bypass the Windows mixer and make getting a standard, line level output easy... Any volume controls on software players etc... should be set to the max. They often have RCA connectors allowing the use of better cables... Sound quality for music from the M-Audio blows away what I was getting out of an Audigy 2.
A music oriented sound card with analog ins and outs ... and high quality D/A converters will also enable making very high quality digital recordings from vinyl or tape...

I switched my speakers to these http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum ent?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docna me=c00040732. All i did was plug my old ones out and plugged these ones in.
now no sound will come out. I went to the control panel and changed my speakers settings from desktop stereo speakers to 5.1 surround speakers. After i did that some applications gave sound like itunes and windows media player but nothing else gives sounds like windows default sounds, games, anything on any internet browser like when i watch youtube videos. I went to the website and there are no drivers for you to download. So how do i get sound out of these speakers for all applications?
Try making sure the wires to the speakers are all plugged in correctly. Sometimes even the wire from one speaker to another if not plugged in all the way or plugged into the incorrect jack can make a difference. Also, do the speakers work fine on another PC or did they work fine on another PC?

I am going to be a DJ for my brothers birthday party, and I was wondering how you would hook up stereo speakers to a laptop. I have a HP Notebook. I don't know what speakers they are, but I just wanted to know if there was a way to connect them.
Thanks!
it depends on the hook up. If the connection into your stereo system, from the speakers, is plain wires, I can't really help you, but if they are cords that look like a head phone/earbud jack, they should work like other ones.
I noticed that my friends HP desktop had his stereo hucked up to it...how would i go about doing that?
An audio card like a sound blaster

Tiny computer tussle: HP vs. Acer
Who'll win over consumers this holiday season? We test-drive the newest netbooks and notebooks.
This Christmas expect small computer overload — so many options, so little time (and money). Â All the major computer manufacturers are coming out with lightweight 'net-connected laptops, and they're banking on big sales: The researchers at IDC expect some 160 million notebook computers to sell worldwide by the end of the year.
But which company will come out on top? It's a tight market right now in the notebook world. HP's ( HPQ ) remains the market leader in personal computers; Dell ( DELL ) is, for now, the No. 2 PC maker. But Taiwanese rival Acer is coming on strong, especially in the netbook market.
