how can you tell which speakers to buy for a jvc dvd
I take it you mean a JVC DVD home theater system? If just the DVD player, then you will need a receiver to drive the speakers and something to plug in your DVD player.
Once that is taken care of, then I would suggest and good speaker system that has an impedance of 8 Ohms or 6 Ohms. A 4-Ohm speaker system may be too hard on many inexpensive receivers.
To get you pointed in the right direction to start, look for systems like the KEF KHT-1005 or the Hsu Research VT-12 systems. Proficient and Dayton Audio both offer a ton of performance for the money as well. If you want full-size front speakers, then the Athena system is a good choice.

Hello, im runnin a JVC THX-50 or something, idk. Lol, anyways. It was free so gimme a break. The front speakers and the sub are the only things getting sound output when i play dvd, the center channel and the rear channels get absolutly nothing. I checked all the volume settings and the audio setup on the dvds, but nothing. When i put it on the radio, since i dont have an anteana i get static, the static comes out of every speaker. Its strange and very frustrating. Also, only the front speakers work when i run the tone test. Any ideas would be awesome, thanks.
Well on my amp, it'll do exactly what you are talking about but that because you can play it in stereo mode dolby digital 2.1, or in full dolby digital surround 5.1.
My guess is select the DVD input on the amp and try changing the sound setting stereo to surround 2.1 - 5.1). I don't know your amp but do some playing around. On mine it remembers you selected this sound for that input if you wanted to change it, a single button on the remote turns on stereo mode, 5.1 or 7.1.

i have a beautiful brand new Sony HD Bravia 52 inch model KDL-52WL135 television and a JVC surround sound system model XV-THC3. i cant get the sound for the tv to work thru the surround system. i tried hooking up the audio cables and setting the tv sound source to external speakers and still no luck. any ideas?
What is your TV signal source? Do you have cable, satellite, etc?
Normally, hooking up the red and white audio jacks from your TV isn't the way to hook this up. You certainly will not get "surround sound".
I no of nothing about your receiver but the recommended connection method would be to find a digital output on your cable or satellite box and run at least digital audio, if not HDMI with both audio and video, from your cable or sat box to your receiver.
Then run either HDMI out from your surround sound system to your TV input or run the TV video straight to the TV and just run a digital audio signal to your surround sound.
I have two pre-wired speaker wires 16 gauge I think it was when I built the house that were run for rear surround sound speakers. The speaker that is closest to the receiver sounds ok, but the speaker that is run the longer distance sounds low and slightly distorted. The speakers are from a JVC surround sound system that are now hooked up to a 75W/channel 7.1 Channel Home Theater System.
What specs do I need to consider the most on a new system in order to provide clear sound to all speakers?
I am also having issues driving some back porch speakers as well hooked up on zone 2.
I roughly know the distance and gauge of the wires run and the problem speakers are small outdoor and rear surround sound speakers at about 6 ohms and 20W.
The outdoor speakers are 6ohm and the surround sound speakers are 3ohm.
The run to the first speaker (that sounds ok) is about 20ft. The distance to the second speaker (sounds very low) is about 30ft.
Also I should add that the original JVC surround sound system would not drive the outdoor speakers at all and had a very low volume out of the first surround sound speaker. The new receiver I purchased (that I will take back) will not drive the outdoor speakers but drives the first surround sound speaker ok with low volume and nothing out of the second surround sound speaker.
My old receiver will driver all but very low volume on the second surround sound speaker.
I'm looking for a unit that will drive all clear. Given that I don't have break/smash/crimp in the second speaker wire somewhere that is behind drywall since the wires were run when the house was built.
Check your receiver's settings...it might have something to do with Delays of sound for the rear speakers. What's the distance of your wire connected from the receiver to the rear speakers? That can be a problem if it's only 16gauge wire. Sometime upgrade to 14, even 12 can help with the distance.
