have 05 harley davidson ultra, want to replace the radio speakers that are made in china with not very good sound and 8 ohms with 4 pollk audio five and a quarter inch, 4ohm speakers. what will be the end results?
Depends of the connection!
You can put two 4 Ohms in series and obtain 8 Ohms, so no problem to your amplifier.
Or you can put anithing between 3.6 and 16 Ohms in each channel and sure is OK for your amp.
My 2005 Harley Davidson FXD with newly installed 100 watt amp and speakers connected to a small ipod shuffle. It really cranks and can be easily ...
There are 2 ways to do this.
1) Take the original volume control from the radio and extend it to the handlebars by adding a cable of some sort. A "ribbon cable" with the appropriate number of conductors (usually 5 or 6) is a good candidate.
2) Wire a stereo high-wattage volume control directly to the speakers and mount it on the handlebars. Such a volume control is called a "T-Pad," and is available at local electronics stores such as Radio Shack. A book with instructions on how to do it should be available there as well. Be sure to get a stereo T-Pad, and make sure it matches the wattage of the radio output, as well as the impedance of the speakers. Happy cycling!

Is there an MP3 Player that I can wire speakers to listen on a motorcycle??
I want to know if it is possible to get an MP3 player that I can attach to small stereo speaker(like 4") so that I can listen to music on my bike. I don't have a stereo, so i want to mount speakers somewhere on the bike, and then have an MP3 player on the tank or somewhere close to me.
Any suggestions or ideas would be great. I am not sure if this idea would even work, so any alternatives would be cool too.
any mp3 player has a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) jack for connecting headphones.
You can use that connector to plug in amplified speakers.
if you plug the speakers directly, you won't get much volume.
you can get computer speakers. try to find some which would work off the bike's battery (probably 6 or 12 volts)

I ride with a full face Shoei street helmet (both Syncrotec and a RF1000) and would like to add some sound to my ride with an mp3 player. I have tried many ear bud head phones only to find them trying to tear my ears off when doning and removing helmet so I was wondering if anyone out there could recomend some setups and brands for stereo helmet set ups. Just to clarify I am not looking for intercom, walkie talkie, or microphone setups, just the head phones. Thanks for your help!
First thing to do is check for 'pockets' for the speakers to fit into in the ear ports of the helmet. If there aren't any pockets check for a large enough space to mount the speakers. To be honest I've never had any luck putting speakers I'm about to suggest in helmets that weren't designed to accept them.
Get in touch with J&M, they make some of the best motorcycle specific audio equipment on the market. Thier customer service is second to none too, real helpful folks. http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF =20
Good luck!
I am making an ice chest cooler for river, with just speakers no amp
you can connect it directly to the battery, using a 10amp guage wire,
i have in the past used speaker wire (use both left and right channels wired togeter wich make about a 10amp thickness) then repaet for the other side of the battery, but do make sure you have a fuse on the + side befor the head unit a simple blade fuse holder is about 99p (50c)

Stereo Speaker Interference - Static - Harley Davidson Forums ...
So far I have disconnected and reconnected the radio and the amp connectors, looked for damaged wiring, and tightened grounds behind the fairing, under the seat and around the amp. I think I found all of the grounds… I also plugged a stock speaker into the system to make sure it is not a bad speaker. Nothing has fixed or reduced the noise so far.
