i have lcd tv and a music system with 2 speakers and woofer.can i use both my tv and music system speaker together to get 5.1 surround system effect together.

5.1 is a Left and Right Speaker, Center Channel, Left and Right Surround, and a Subwoofer. I don't know what The only way this would do anything close is if your TV has a left and right surround output that you could connect the music system too. That would be about as close as you are going to get with the current setup.

I’m looking to buy a surround sound system for my TV. I want to be able to play music with good quality, but also watch movies with a true surround sound experience. I was thinking about getting a sub woofer, a center channel speaker, and then 4 floor standing speakers for the left and right, front and rear positions. My question involves the 4 floor standers. Is it advisable to have floor standing speakers in the rear or would bookshelf speakers be better for the movie watching?

if you have room for the floor standing speakers sound better for music then the small satellite speaker even with a good sub. the small speaker do OK for TV viewing but for music they do not sound as good as a good full sized speaker. For the rears the large Speaker is not as important as the sound unless you are in 5 stereo is mostly coming from the front speakers the rears are just effects and fill sound so smaller is ok for the rears.

OK, my computer speakers are inside my monitor. Meaning I don't have those pesky little sound stations that normally come with a computer. Is there a way to plug my monitor into my surround sound system? I want the music to be louder. Or is there a way to purchase a surround sound system for my computer? Thanks.
The cord I use to get sound is hooked up to the back of my monitor.

Does your stereo system have RCA inputs in the back? If so, you can buy a cable with a jack (to connect to your computer) on one end, and RCA outputs to go into your stereo. Usually the computer jack end has a piggy back so that you can still plug in your regular computer speakers.

Speakers made specifically for iPods suck. Trust me, they are made more for looks than sound. Just buy regular computer speakers or buy an "rca to headphone jack" cable and use floor or shelf speakers that are hooked up to a receiver. Even some boom boxes have rca inputs in the back.

The computer speakers are just an example. You could probably get better ones for slightly cheaper on eBay (new). Just do a little research and find out which ones have the most watts and best reviews. I would definitely recommend going into a store in person (just so that you can get an idea for what they sound like). They usually have the speakers hooked up so that you can hear how they sound. I bought some speakers (around $40) that came with a sub at least five years ago and they still b-b-bump!

I probably don't need to tell you but just in case your wondering how you could use computer speakers, it's simple. You set up everything just as if you were hooking them up to the computer, except instead of hooking the cable with the green end into the back of the computer you just plug it into the iPod's headphone jack.

Trust me. iPod specific speakers are a major rip-off.
