Outdoor Speakers

Anyone have any recommendations? It's a bit hard to check out outdoor speakers in a store and get an idea of how they will sound in an open backyard.

I've got three models in mind...Boston Acoustics Voyager 6, Polk Audio Atrium 60, and Paradigm Stylus 370 v.3

A friend actually owns the Paradigms, and they sound fantastic and is what I'm leaning towards, but I'd like to get some input on a few others first.

You are right that they sound different outside. I wish stores would have real outdoor displays. I am afraid I haven't heard the Polk or Paradigm outdoor speakers, but I have been impressed with the Boston Voyagers. The Sonance outdoor speakers I have heard have impressed me even more than the Bostons. Based on what I have heard of the Paradigm sound I do suspect they would make a good outdoor speaker. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

I recently added outdoor speakers to my surround sound system. I have a Samsung system, but it doesn't appear to have a two-channel system. Any suggestions on how to switch between my indoor and outdoor speakers? I only want my outdoor speakers to work when I am listening to the radio or cd. I don't wany my neighbors listening to the movies or tv stations that I am watching.

You may have to try a speaker selection box to switch between your front speakers and your outdoors. The box is inexpensive and splits the one speaker output between your indoor and outdoor speakers with a button control. Try an electronics stores or a big AV retailer... Hope this helps...

I have an older JVC stereo system and want to hook up wireless outdoor speakers to it, but the JVC has the old style wire clamp system for the speakers. Is there some sort of adapter I can get?
I have the transmitter, there's just no way to hook it up to the stereo, because it does not have output jacks.

You need a speaker level to line level converter:

My computer is on the second floor of my house and my stereo is on the first floor in the living room. I was planning on buying some outdoor speakers and just running a wire from the computer out the window on the second floor and hooking is to the Speakers mounted under the eaves on my back deck. Will the computer have enough power to push to speaker, it will probably be 30 or 40 feet of wire. I dont want to spend a whole lot of money either.

Use a MP3 player loaded with your music to run your (powered)speakers, or try wireless speakers. Powered type speakers will boost the signal if you run a lot of wire.

you can replace speakers.. BUT depending on the power of the receiver.. it might not be able to push the speakers to its full potential..

you shouldnt splice cables for speakers.. youll burn out something
