Can you help me to connect my DVD player Philips dvp642 with Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers?

Please If I need home theater reciver can you tell me what is the best.

Yes, you need a home theater receiver. Then you can hook up both the speakes and the DVD player to it. Think of it this way: Your DVD player is the input (digital music/video); your speakers are the output (sound). Now you need something to amplify & control that input, to get it to the speakers. The best receivers for the money are Denon & Onkyo. See both at Crutchfield.com

Pc surround sound 5.1 left side speakers not working?

Hi, today i bought some philips 5.1 surround sound speakers for my pc, after plugging them in and updating my drivers for my pc off Asus's website i hit a problem.

After setting everything up and changing the settings to 6 speaker mode, the entire left side speakers arent playing anything.

I checked the speakers themselves in different ports and there working, i checked the cables and there fine so im out of ideas.

The cables have definately been connected properly. My motherboard is ALIVENF6P-VSTA and I have the latest Realtek drivers, im on windows XP.

Any help? I dont really want to upgrade to Vista so thats not an option.
There are 5 speakers and the subwoofer, on Realteks drivers, the subwoofer counts as a speaker
No Ive never have 6 speakers on my pc before, but checking the motherboard itself i have no internal cable issues because its connected directly to the board, ive also tried switching the cables from the back to the front panel and still the same issue
Issue Solved, the problem was windows own audio setup had randomly set to right side only on the slider, so the left side was technically muted,

No idea why but its fine now. Thanks for help guys

Have you had 6 speakers before? If the speakers and cables are fine, then it's either configuration (unlikely if you've checked thoroughly); or the motherboard cable might be loose. Can you easily access the motherboard? If so, might be worth checking all the cables are correctly seated both on the board, and at where they connect to the casing (two chances for things to be loose).

I had a similar problem with my old desktop - the front speaker sockets weren't connected properly to the case sockets, although they were attached to the motherboard properly.

Is there a way I can hook up my ipod to my 5.1 Channel Surround System by Philips?

I own a ipod and a Philips Extreme 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System (really cheap, bought for $90 at Frys). I have hooked up the cable in various ways, but at the best, I get sound out the front and back speakers, not the center one and the subwoofer. I would really like to get my ipod sound through at least the subwoofer, and can't find a way to do it. The system obviously doesn't use RCA, which is just left and right, not surround. Anyway, does anyone know an inexpensive/free and easy way to do this? Please help, I love to listen to my music really loud and bassy in my room, but I can't really do that with an Ihome, can I?

you need a headphone jack to an RCA converted....

Philips SPA2600 5.1 surround sound speaker setup help?

I wanted to hook these speakers to my LCD TV but I don't know how they have 3 x audio input ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) plug in from the subwoofer to whatever you want to plug them into(like PC,MP3,TV)

Your SPA2600 system was designed to be hooked up to a PC not a TV. Perhaps there is a simple device which would allow you to do this, but i'm not aware of one.

  • Computer Shopper: Product Reviews: Philips BDP7300

Blu-ray movies provide HD audio as well as video. If you've recently bought an HD TV, you'll certainly benefit from the former - just hook up any Blu-ray player over HDMI to enjoy pin-sharp pictures. Audio is often a secondary consideration, though, and even those who have surround-sound speakers may balk at spending at least £350 on a new AV receiver to decode the latest soundtrack formats, such as Dolby TrueHD.

Some Blu-ray players, such as this BDP7300, can decode both Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, which could save you buying a new AV receiver. It sends the resulting analogue audio to its multichannel output, so check that your amp has a multichannel input before you buy. If so, an older, non-HDMI equipped amp can benefit from HD soundtracks. The BDP7300 supports only 5.1 surround sound rather than 7.1, but this shouldn't bother most of those who use older AV receivers. We don't know anyone who's installed a 7.1 speaker set in their living rooms.
