i have a broken pioneer stereo system but the big speakers still work
they might be having some wires at their back ie. black and red wire. If they were with a Hi fi music system they can only be hooked up with them. If your tv supports the wires then well and good. If your tv has those red and white sockets at at its back then get the red and white wires from the market then hook them at the back of the system and tv select the source as MD or aux

If you have an extra computer power supply hanging around say about 500 watts or higher you could try that .

Should I buy vintage speakers, or new ones for my vintage pioneer stereo receiver?
I can't spend more than, maybe $400. For my price range, would new or vintage speakers be a better choice? Why? I found some polk's at future shop that I like, but can't really compare them to vintage very well, and I'm not sure what the difference is.
Buy new ones. The cones of speakers get old and rattle. Get new ones, just make sure the impedence (8 ohms, 4 ohms etc) is the same.

These work perfectly and are in great shape. Can someone please tell me how much these might be worth to sell?
They are only worth what someone is willing to pay you for them. Check with eBay or some other auction sites and see what they are going for.
Do you notice one terminal of your speaker is larger than the other one? I am not sure with Pioneer speakers. If that is the case (one terminal is larger than the other one), then that should be the positive terminal, and the smaller terminal is the negative.
It does not matter if you have plugged in your stereo's positive audio output to the negative speaker input and vise versa, all you will have is a 180 degrees out-of-phase audio output.
