model # is sda ta 1354 built in 1985 they have 2 tweeters 4 mids and 1 un coated passive radiator on each speaker . i have looked everywhere and still dont see them.
It would be very unlikely for any speaker to have fuses that cannot be changed without opening the cabinet. I've never seen that. Most companies no longer use fuses in speakers because they add resistance and destroy sound quality. Audiophiles wouldn't buy them. Fused speakers are rare these days. You probably have a blown tweeter. If you hear distortion... turn it down because you're amplifier is clipping and that's what happens.
The recording isn#39;t the best, but it gives you an idea of what these sound like with Ramp;B...

Polk Audio Floor Standing Speaker (RTIA7)
or
Klipsch Tower Speaker (RF82)??
thanks
Sgt. Pepper's advice is good. Listen to both and buy whichever sounds best to you.
Here's something else to consider, though...
Speakers are one of the most profitable items in an electronics store. The speakers they're selling to you for $1000, cost them $500. They bought them from a distributor who paid $250 for them. IF that distributor bought them from the manufacturer (and not from another middle-man), they cost the manufacturer $125 to make. (These margins may or may not be slightly exaggerated, depending on what speakers you may be talking about. But, in general, it's a reasonably good example.)
Now, take a $1000 pair of speakers from Hsu Research, AV123, or Home Theater Direct. They ARE the manufacturer, selling to YOU at a 50% profit.
So - which do you think will sound better- the $1000 speakers that cost $125 to make? Or the $1000 speakers that cost $500 to make?
The compromise is that you don't get to hear them first (although you can visit their websites and read the rave reviews from various audio/video/home theater magazines and websites.) But the *really* good news is that speaker companies that use this business model almost always give you a 30 day (or more) guarantee - no questions asked, return them for a full refund if you're not happy.

Any advice from someone who considers themselves an audiophile would be the most helpful. Thanks.
I outfitted my parent's Home Theater with this exact setup. (minus the subwoofer, we used a Harmon Kardon TS5) You won't be disappointed if you love to watch Blu-ray's or DVD's, but if you are looking for audiophile surround.
I suggest Mirage OMD-15 package with a velodyne subwoofer.
I am getting a new receiver and I am not completely sure if I should get this SONY STR-DG820 7.1 Channel Home Theater System. I have Polk Audio RM6750 speakers and I plan on getting 2 floor standing speakers soon but would you get the sony receiver that i had listed? I am in need of hdmi and blu-ray also so I think I should get this receiver and I do not plan on spending much over $400 for a receiver.
i would love to have high quality though...i am willing to go around $600 also if I get a high quality receiver
i want 7.1 and i want a minimum of 3 hdmi ports since i plan on using a ps3, xbox 360, and a direct tv hd box.
if you want better quality you have to look at brands like onkyo, yamaha, denon
they all make fine receivers in many price ranges.
most of the mid to upper mid price units have hdmi switching.
mcm electronics is not a place to purchase better quality electronics.
the sony is good enough quality for the average user. a good value for the dollar. consider staying with the sony and put the extra money towards the speakers or the bluray.
remember you will also need a powered subwoofer and a center speaker for at least a 5.1 system.
