Stereo & speakers + powered sub = static. What is up?

I have an Onkyo stereo receiver. When I am listening to FM stations with out the powered sub on, the stations come in clear. As soon as the sub goes on the radio gets lots of static.
I have the front speakers hooked up normally to the "A" channels and the sub to the "B" channels only for signal purposes. When listening to a CD or a movie, there is no static (sub on). Does anyone know why this is happening?

I'm kinda thinking that perhaps your sub isn't shielded too well as far as interference coming out of its internal amplifier, and that's in turn leaking and messing with your FM signal. Try moving your subwoofer further away from your radio tuner, or using an external FM antenna and getting that as far away from your sub as possible. This may help. GOOD LUCK !!

Low-wattage stock car stereo, higher wattage new speakers? Will it work?

I have an old pickup truck that has a 2 speaker system. It is junky. It sounds like AM even when playing a tape or a clear FM station. I might change the speakers (from 25W stock) to 100RMS 200W peak.

I obviously know the receiver itself needs replacing, but aside from spending the moolah for that, will changing the speakers help, hinder, or not effect the sound at all? High power speakers from an under-powered stereo.

Unless your stock speakers are ripped and buzzing, you probably won’t get much better sound from new speakers. You might gain some clarity, however. If you are going to drive the truck for a long time, you should consider investing at least on head-unit. Today, decent head unit is cheaper than a pair of speakers. Of course, if you want some low end power, you’re going to need an amp. Try www.etronics.com . Their pricing is the lowest I found on the net.

Can you use a 5.1 surround sound receiver to power 2 stereo speakers?

Will it sound okay or should I stick with a 2 channel receive since I only have/need two speakers?

You could but it would only have the front two channels. You could twist the other channel outputs with the main two channels to simulate surround sound. A small inexpensive center channel speaker would be nice for movies and stuff.

What is the best way to power a pair of quality stereo speakers?

I plan on running a pair of Paradigm Mini's through my Onkyo home theater receiver.

I keep reading that maybe the home theater receiver is not the best way to power a pair of good speakers.

What is the best way to drive a pair of speakers for the best possible sound reproduction?

I keep hearing the terms tube amp, amp, etc.

How would you do it?

If you power them up via an Onkyo HT receiver, would the difference really not make a difference?

Thanks

Your Onkyo receiver is a good quality "solid state" amp that will work just fine powering those speakers. Which are very good bookshelf speakers, by the way.

Audio Tube amps are the realm of high-end audiophile sound systems. Once apon a time all amps were vacuum tube-driven, until the invention of the solid state transistor.

The debate of tube vs solid state is fierce and can often turn volatile, so I won't even start THAT debate here.

But for your purposes, that Onkyo will do fine for now. If you're looking for a good return on your money for improved sound, start first with a good powered sub-woofer. Those Minis are good speakers, but your missing out on a whole lot of bottom end without a sub.

Look a Paradigm, Hsu, SVS, and Velodine manufacturers.

Still confused how to power stereo speakers. HT amp or integrated stereo amplifier?

I was considering upgrading my 6-disc changer to an Onkyo DX 7555 because it apparently is a better sounding CD player.

Now most people that review this CD player say they are powering it with an Onkyo A-9555 integrated stereo amplifier because they claim it sounds almost "tube like."

I plan on or was planning on picking up an Onkyo SR606 HT receiver for my new HT setup. What is the best way to power a CD player like the DX7555 and good stereo speakers for the best sound quality?

Separate amplifiers tend to sound a little better than integrated receivers, but that also depends on the quality overall. Most seperate systems start getting pricey and the quality is usually high. Typically one would have a preamp and amplifier(s). The A-9555 is an integrate amplifier, meaning it has a preamp built in.

The 9555 is a little bit more expensive than the 606. One thing the 9555 will lack in compared to the 606 is bass management, in case you are using a subwoofer. I don't see a subwoofer output on that model.

What I would do is audition the A-9555 along with a TX-SR606 and see if you can hear the difference. You gain a lot of other features with the 606 (like a radio tuner, and possible use as a 5.1 or 7.1 channel system), so if your ear is happy with it you save $$$ and have a more versatile product. Step up to the 706 and you would have a THX Select2 certified receiver with Audyssey MultEQ auto setup (makes a nice difference in sound I think).
