Record Sound Through Speakers

I have Windows Vista
audicity wont work, is there anything else thats free that can record audio streaming through my speakers??
I want to record audio that is playing through my speakers NOT my voice

How to record audio straight from your your computer. !IMPORTANT! If your computer does not have stereo mix look for wave out mix.

i connected my amp and mic to my pc through the front jack port to record through my studio software now my speakers and sound has gone completely. i can't even play sound through windows media or music or dvd any thoughts?

For example, I am playing a youtube video and I want record the sound that is playing through the speakers. It doesn't do it. I tried screen record with sound but the sound doesn't record. I have windows media encoder 9.
Any ideas?

I was wondering if you can record (using sound recorder) anything goling through your sound playback (or what you hear through your speakers.) Is there a way, by changing devices, or changing what you record? If there is a free program that can do it, that would work as well.

i have previously used audacity on my old computer to record songs that i wasn't able to download so that i can have those songs... but now i use my new laptop, i downloaded audacity, and when i record a song.. it also records through my speakers/microphone/WHATEVER. where can i change the settings so that it ONLY records audio coming from the computer?
