applian.com Freecorder Toolbar is a FREEWARE SOUND RECORDER (audio recording) software for Windows XP and Vista. It can record ANY sound playing ...
When I had Microsoft XP I could record the sound playing from my computer speakers by using the audio option in Windows Movie Maker. It meant that I could stream music from the internet and burn it to disk for free without using dodgy sites like Limewire! I've got Vista now and Microsoft have obviously spotted this great flaw in the Movie Maker program as there is only the option of recording sound from a mic! If anyone could help me it'd make my day!!! :)
Follow up - the files that I was previously able to record were protected files i.e Napster files. Therefore I cannot directly record them. I just want to be able to record the sound as it's playing, like I could with the old Movie Maker software. ??????????????
download audacity build 1.2.6
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
if you want to export as mp3, you will need to download the Lame encoder that is also on that site.
if your sound card supports it, you can select "Stereo Mix" in the recording source drop down in the toolbar. once you have that, goto edit>preferences> Audio I/O under recording, change channels from mono to stereo. now you can record in stereo. now click on the file formats tab, click on the find library button and link to the lame encoder to enable the mp3. now select the bit rate you want the mp3 to be. the higher the bitrate, the better the quality but the more space it uses. 128 is a good balance of quality and small size. now all you have to do is hit the record button, press play on the internet, whatever is played through your speakers will be recorded. once finished, you can edit the wav to get rid of the extra silence. then click on file, export as mp3 or wav, and there you go. if you have any other questions about audacity, let me know, i've used it for over 5 years.

I got a brand new Laptop with a webcam and a microphone.
I was wondering if there was a program which I could use to record sound straight from my laptops speakers.
You can use the program Audacity to record any sound on your computer. You can get the download from here http://rapidshare.com/files/121975446/au dacity-win-1.2.6.rar and it records any sounds you want it to. I wouldn't recommend using the webcam mic though as webcam mic's are well known for picking up all background noises as well. Instead, you can unplug the webcam, change your computer's Recording settings and you can record any sounds from inside the computer. It work's loads better and the sound is crystal clear too with no background noises. You don't even have to have a mic plugged in as it is all done through the sound card, this is why you have to unplug the webcam to do this as the webcam mic overrides the sound card because of the USB port being used. If you would like some help as far as getting your sound card set up to be able to do this, please feel free to send me an email or message and I will be more than happy to help you. Just make sure you include whether or not you are using Windows XP or Vista please so I know what operating system setup to go with.

I mistaken while installing audio drivers. I used CD of another Motherboard. later I installed successfully with right CD.But My Sound recording device became Realtek HD Audio Output(which should be Input). It is helpful me to record sound from .EXE.But how to do it?also tell me how to change it to Input?
you should remove your driver software and restart then install ur correct mother board audio driver.
then use music juke box it is very usefull to system mixer recording, input recording i mean sound input from another device and mic recording i mean recorning from ur system mic.

Why does sound only come out on one speaker when using a mic ...
Hey this problem has been bothering me for months and I finally have no idea what is wrong. So I have a Shure microphone that I hook up to my computer. I tried to record out of it but sound is only on the left speaker. I thought the mic was busted so I went out and bought a brand new Shure microphone. The same thing happened. I tested the mic in another computer and everything worked fine. I also tested the old mic in another computer and that worked fine too. I dug up an old mic that is not a Shure and it worked fine in my computer. So the microphones have nothing wrong with them but what I would like to know is that why does my computer only record sound on one speaker when I use my Shure mics?
