I want to maintain the correct impedence for the amp. How do I build a circut that will properly distribute the output and keep the proper impedence for the speakers? A schematic would be most appreciated.
you want to create a 70V set up. Just know that the audio is not all that great, and usually this is relegated to the PA crowd.
Building a circuit like this should not be attempted by a novice.

I have a set of old stereo speakers - they have bare wires at the back (two for each speaker - one wire in each set has a white stripe on it).
I want to wire them to a single 3.5mm stereo jack plug which in turn will go into an amplifier - can anybody please tell me how best to do this?
You can't turn speakers into an amplifier. If they are amplified speakers, they will work. Old stereo speakers need a separate amplifier.
A stereo jack plug has 3 connectors called body ring and tip. Body is the one connected to the largest bit of metal and the two wires with white stripes connect to that. The other wire for the left hand speaker goes to the tip and for the right hand speaker to the ring.

I have a Samsung LCD TV Model: LE22B450C4W 22 Inch, I tried connecting my stereo speakers with an audio optical cable. However, only the sound comes out of a single speaker. How can I fix this?
I've done a TV audio self diagnosis. It works. But as soon as I output to the stereo it comes out of one speaker only.
thanks
Let's ISOLATE....
Turn on your stereo, then set it to an FM STATION....
Do you hear both left and right channels? Then your amp is ok and if not, get the amplifier replaced in your stereo.
Have you moved any of your speaker wires? Sometimes when you insert the wires you can get the insulation caught between the speaker connection and that speaker goes dead...check it before pulling the amp.
Now if you have BOTH channels on FM, then set it to your Video input that you are using for your TV sound and verify your RCA audio wire is properly connected to the AMP's input and the TV's AUDIO output jacks.
IF it is and you only get the left channel, swap the left and right RCA connections on both the TV and Amp and see if the sound now comes out of the RIGHT side....if so, then your RCA cable has a broken wire and you should replace it with a good audio cable
And if it still stays on the LEFT SIDE, then your TV's AUDIO OUTPUT is actually bad and needs replaced.
We call this test the DIVIDE and CONQUER test, because it divides the whole system into it's basic parts and each part is tested to see where the actual failure is located.
So you're testing the amp first, the speaker wiring 2nd, making corrections to get both channels, then moving on to the RCA audio cable, verifying the left and right cable is working correctly, THEN finally testing the TV's audio output jacks....
NOW....once you get that working then we can deal with the OPTICAL connection, which is MORE complicated....
At least you have stereo sound at this point.
As for OPTICAL connections, you have more than one optical input on most amps, and these optical inputs can be set to ANY of the VIDEO INPUT selections your amp has.....
So Optical input #1 can be set to Video 1 or Video 2 or DVD input or any other Video-based input on your amp....
So how do you get it set up properly at this point?
I believe you already have sound, so if you only get left channel with the optical input, then that means your optical processor isn't doing BOTH channels...
But that's also why we divide and conquer all the other possibilities FIRST...
So that we know your optical processor has failed.

I've recently moved my older receiver (Yamaha R-V905) into my computer room. It's a 5.1 ready receiver which can, obviously, be run in standard 2-channel stereo. The problem I'm having here is space and would like to run this receiver into a single speaker (mono).
My question is how to wire this properly? Or do I need another accessory to make this work properly? I haven't messed with this kind of problem in a while and my memory is a bit hazy... school was a long time ago heh.
The receiver can be run in 4 or 8 ohm operation and the single speaker is 8 ohm.

Feel free to edit the visual and repost it if there is a simple solution to this problem.
I appreciate any help!
If I run the amp bridged should I go in 8 ohm or 4 ohm mode when running a single 8 ohm speaker?
Connecting to either the left or right side will work but again you will only be hearing 1/2 the program. Consider using a Y cable such as a Dual RCA Male to a single RCA male. Use the dual end to pull both sides ( left & right ) from your source such as a CD player. Use the single end ( Now carrying both sides ) to plug into the left input of your AVR. Then connect your single speaker to the left output. You will then get both sides from one speaker. You might also consider adjusting the output balance to full left so your AVR is not attempting to drive a speaker output without a load.
I'm looking to upgrade my stereo system with a new pair of 3-way speakers, everything I see seems to use a dual woofer configuration. My current speakers use a single 12 inch woofer with two horns, one for the midrange, and one for the high end. my main concern is not going "Backwards" in relationship to what I already have, "Rock" solid bass.
they are using 2 smaller speakers vs one larger because they are faster , quicker (sound - cleaner) more acurate .
