What kind of speakers can I buy for a small screen hdtv with digital audio output?
BEHRINGER Fan Photo - Les Paul Martin

I just bought a 26" sharp lcd hdtv. The picture is fine, but the speakers are very disappointing. the tv does have a digital output audio. what kind of external speakers/woofers are compatible with this tv? what components will be needed? i reckon a conventional computer speaker wouldn't work.

In order to use the digital audio output, you'll need a Dolby receiver, which means you'll need a full-blown Home Theater kit. You can get these relatively cheaply these days, but you get what you pay for. If the TV is a small one for a bedroom, you might do better to take the ANALOG audio output and run that into a set of PC speakers with subwoofer.

Home audio speakers, are smaller dual woofers better than a single large one?
studio2

I'm looking to upgrade my stereo system with a new pair of 3-way speakers, everything I see seems to use a dual woofer configuration. My current speakers use a single 12 inch woofer with two horns, one for the midrange, and one for the high end. my main concern is not going "Backwards" in relationship to what I already have, "Rock" solid bass.

they are using 2 smaller speakers vs one larger because they are faster , quicker (sound - cleaner) more acurate .

i have BOSE speakers plugged into a small lcd tv. when the tv is off, I'm still hearing cable audio. why?
Sound

i'll clarify.

my tv has rca jacks connecting it to a couple of small bose speakers. sounds great, works great, etc. but when i shut off the tv, the audio from the channel i was just watching continues to feed through the bose speakers.

anybody know why this might be happening? i have those speakers hooked up to another device as well so i can't just turn the volume down as a solution.
my tv is not hooked to a cable box. cables run straight from the tv to the speakers.

When your tv is turned off, it's not completely turn off it's on standby so you will still hear the sound coming in from you cable company. All tv's and receivers are not completely turn off, they are on stanby and continues to consume energy just like your computer. You can buy a switch box to control what you have hooked up to your speaker.

Audio Distortion: Large speakers 'pop', smaller ones don't?

I've noticed that with larger speakers like 6 x 9's, when I turn the volume up at full blast (no amps, line boosters, etc) the speakers will 'pop' (pop sound then temporary silence) at the louder and lower notes. But when I disconnect the larger speakers and connect something small like the speakers from a pair of headphones, they don't suffer from this problem. Now I know from the audio research that I used to do that louder and lower notes require the most voltage. I fugure this has something to do with it but why then don't the smaller speakers suffer this problem?

I can handle the 'techie jargon', give me the best explaination you can. Thanks.

the smaller speaker just wont play the lower notes since its not designed to reproduce it, but the 6x9 probably can but is llimited by power that you give to it (at full blast, your Head Unit amp is "clipping" the signal since it cant give anymore clean power at that level). or it could be over excursion meaning the speaker has exceeded its xmax. (look at your 6x9 when clipping, it's probably stuck fully forward or reverse thats why u cant hear anything, when the sine wave goes below its peak then it moves again thats why you can hear it again.)
just turn the volume down or buy an external amp. Your 6x9 is probably damaged already.

learn about the inside/wireing of audio speakers?

are there any good websites with pictures that can show me the basics of the insides of audio speakers? i'm currently poking around at the inside of some small external computer speakers, the casings were crap but the speakers still work, i dont want to get rid of them so i decided i would use these to learn about speakers.

www.partsexpress.com they have schematics as well as plans to build your own.

  • Get micro amp for small desktop speakers - Head-Fi: Covering ...

Now the problem of course I'll have is 1 dac and 2 amps; is there a way I can hook up one micro dac to 2 amps? I know the micro amp has 2 outputs, but I don't want to have to disconnect my headphones every time I just want to use the speakers. I also want to be able to use both at the same time from difference sources and use both at the same time from the same source. You get the idea. I think the y-splitter idea is good. I used to cut corners and save here and here, but since I have realized this is all expensive either way. So for this I'd get the ultra to use on my headphones and then use the old micro for the speakers. Yes I understand all this is quite an expensive solution (considering...
