Do tower speakers sound okay in small apartments?

Everything you read says not to get tower speakers for a small apartment. Is that just because of the space they take up? Or do you need big spaces for tower speakers to work. My apartment has vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors. Would tower speakers work?

I never heard that!

Empirical data suggests form follows function, a large tower speaker will sound better than a bookshelf of comparable specs given ideal parameters. But how often do we have ideal situations? The neighbor issue comes to mind. Don't discount a good bookshelf speaker though. If space is a premium then get a better set of bookshelf speaker than a tower set. But for full range you need to replicate that lower end.

In any case that sounds like a great place to have a good tower speaker, but you need to listen to several models before settling on which is better for you.

I really think it is a space issue in regards to the towers and not a audio performance issue.

Where can I buy two small speakers that connect to my TV?

My TV and bed are a bit far apart. I was wondering if I could just buy two seperate, small speakers to put by my bed side. Is that possible? I can only find big, surround sound, expensive things. I just want two simple speakers.

I bought mine here:

Do replacement speakers for a Honda Civic make a big difference in music sound?

I am thinking of replacing my rear speakers, door speakers, dash speakers in my Honda Civic to improve the sound quality of my stereo. I'd also like to get a new in dash CD/radio because the factory installed model doesn't play CD's anymore. What can I expect to pay? Any advantage to using a large Best Buy over a local small town stereo shop?

If you pay decent money and research your products first you will definitely see an improvement in sound quality. Just don't be cheap because you may be stepping down unintentionally. You can go local or big box stores, i find that local shops are more knowledgeable about the products they sell.

Is the bit rate of 192kbps alright for sound quality on big sound-systems?

Hi i`m ripping music into my windows media player with a bit rate of 192kbps and them making mp3`s outta of them.I am going to play my music on a fairly big sound-system,i was wondering if the sound quality would be satisfactory and if the average person would notice a difference. The reason i don`t use higher bit rate`s is that i don`t have the space for it and the mp3 cd will hardly hold a decent amount of songs.Someone told me about keeping the wave files and something about converting to flac,i could`nt here all of it.I ask for some help because i`ll be opening a small reggae bar and i want to play these mp3cd`s on fairly big speaker`s so i want the tunes to rocking without any unsatisfactory sound quality.I played a few of my burned cd`s at this rate on a small portable radio and it did`nt sound bad, please tell me that it should be alright at this rate.
Please add your thoughts if you think that people will notice the difference or that the cd`s will be exposed as poorly recorded discs when played on fairly sized speakers. What do you think will it be ok at 192kbps and if not add your thought i`d like to know.

I do the same for our sound system
(see: http://www.cc-dc.tk)
and they sound fine. As long you've got a good operator who knows how to tweak those dials and mix, they can sound just as 'criss' as vinyl. Happy selecting :)

How do I hook up a set of 2.1 logitech pc speakers (two speakers and sub) to a Sony DVD player?

My Sony dvd player already has two big speakers and a big sub (used to have two small speakers with it but they broke), my high school grad is coming up at the end of the year and I want the music to be extra loud therefore connecting my pc speakers to the sound system seems like a good idea. How do i hook the pc speakers up to the dvd player? Thanks

Well, on most DVD players there should be a headphone jack that you can plug your speakers into. By the way, the "headphone" jack isn't just for headphones, it's really just a typical audio-out jack. From the looks of what the player could run before, it should have more than enough power for the computer speakers.

  • Small Speakers, Big Bass with H-PAS from Atlantic Technology and ...

Announced last month , the partnership between Atlantic Technology and Solus/Clements came to fruition at CEDIA EXPO in Atlanta, at least enough for the press to get a sneak preview of H-PAS (Hybrid Pressure Acceleration System).  Atlantic Technology's Peter Tribeman and Philip Clements from Solus/Clements were on hand to explain the technology and then to demonstrate it using a prototype pair of Atlantic Technology loudspeakers.  The speakers were a slim tower design, featuring just a pair of 4.5-inch woofers and a tweeter in an enclosure of around 1.4 cubic feet internally.

"There's no trickery going on here," said Tribeman.  "No special crossovers or electronics. These are the same drivers we use in our LCR speakers and speaker bar, just in a new H-PAS cabinet." The duo then went on to demonstrate the system using a few select classical and jazz tracks that emphasize the lowest octaves.  I have to say, the low bass coming out of those small cabinets was prodigious.  Tribeman says they were getting usable bass down below 30 Hz (29 dB at up to 105 dB, so they say) and it certainly sounded like it.  We're used to hearing bass like this out of large powered 12" subwoofers, but Tribeman and Clements assured us there were no subs: "what you see is what you get."
