I have a surround sound reciever already. I just need to know i i need surround sound speakers?
Actually...both previous posters are wrong. If you already have a surround sound receiver. Technically if you connect all 5 (5.1) or 7 (7.1) speakers to your receiver, it will distrubute the appropriate audio signals to each. So if you have 5 speakers laying around, you can wire them to your receiver and it will do the rest. Now, it may not sound too good unless all speakers are the same or similar. You can also try purchasing just a speaker system for your surround sound. Try place's like Fry's Electronics or Best Buy.

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma (TH-42PX60U) and I just bought a Samsung Surround Sound System (HT-TX72), I was curious to know where should I place (in feet) the 2 front speakers as well as the 2 back speakers to make sure that I am getting the best sound. I have my couch set up about 8 feet away from the TV.
This guide shows in great depth the ideal placement of each speaker; http://www.soundstage.com/surrounded/sur rounded200307.htm

Okay, just 2 hours ago, my volume and stuff were playing normally. But now, when i play any sound, it sounds like chipmunks, or its very scratchy or when i play music, it sounds like electric music, and the voices are very quiet at times. And i have to turn it all the way up just to hear it.
BUT, when i play Realtek HD Audio Manager (to test sounds on my speakers) its normal.
Plug in headphones and see if still sounds like that if yes then its your sound card. If not the its your speakers.

I have a basic koss surround sound dvd player with the speakers all hooked up and the audio cables going into the tv. However, I am getting no sound from the speakers when trying to play a dvd?
I am a home theatre expert. The best way is to hook up the COAX or OPTICAL output of your DVD player to the COAX or OPTICAL input of your Receiver.. If you do not have optical or coax outputs from your dvd player then use the red and white cables.. You do have a receiver I assume, you will need that to decode the digital audio signal coming from your DVD. Your speakers are then hooked up to your receiver, not the tv. Nothing should be connected to the tv except for a video signal (THE YELLOW CABLE) preferably coming out of your "Monitor Out or Video Out" of your Receiver. Your receiver should act as a gateway for all your audio/video related components including your TV for best results..
"my surround sound dvd player plays the sound through the tv"
AND
"the audio cables going into the tv"
EQUALS
"dvd player plays the sound through the tv"
And Finally...
If you do not have a receiver.. I would go grab one.. its very worthwile comparing your 10 watt TV speakers to 700 watt surround sound is significant.
But if your in a hurry and you dont have a receiver then even though your DVD surround player supplies the audio, it PROBABLY DOES NOT amplify your sound. Sound coming from those red and white cables are extremely low voltage, not enough to power speakers.. They will need to be amplified by a reciever, amplifier, or as a last resort, your TV.
I have 5:1 surround Klipsch speakers hooked up to my computer via an optical cable, and I can't figure out why the sound is only giving off background noise when a sound is about to happen. (Usually it cuts off the first second of it too). Then the speakers shut off automatically until a new sound is about to be played.
tough question, I guess I would need to know what type of video card you have, what system your using, what amp your using and if it works with the digital cable on another source? Sounds like to me something is hooked up wrong/ the computer using the digital out? Is the amp have the selection of say all channel or turn surround off. Try if you can to try the optical on another source and if it works you know its with the computer.
