I made the mistake of buying nuance (cnd brand) and I am not very satisfied with them. Powered with an older Yamaha amp (sorry forgot the model its about 7 years old time for new). I am willing to spend up to 3000 for the system. It must have all the goodies needed to interface with the new tv's, and most importantly sound great with video and music. The current system I have now sound ok with movies but horrible with music if any body has any suggestions on that I would be hapy to hear them as well
thanks

Ok, I will get right to the point to at least put you on the right track because we all have different tastes and personal preferences. That being said, here's the products that I would recommend given your criteria...
DVD Player: Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi
A/V Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV
Speaker System: Ventriloquist VT-12
Powered Subwoofer: VTF-2 MK 2
If you want optional choices, look to Onkyo and Yamaha for receiver choices, Arcam or Denon for DVD player choices, and BIC Acoustech, Definitive Technology, Athena, or NHT for speaker choices.
If you have some monies left over, upgrade your cabling. It makes a difference in my 25 years of experimenting with audio and video. Otherwise, upgrade later if you cannot afford to now.

Go to Fry's Electronics and get an Onkyo HT-S5200 system for under $500 (a receiver 7.1 and a set of 7.1 speakers). This should handle all your requirements for surround sound for gaming and Blue ray disc movies.

I’m looking to buy a surround sound system for my TV. I want to be able to play music with good quality, but also watch movies with a true surround sound experience. I was thinking about getting a sub woofer, a center channel speaker, and then 4 floor standing speakers for the left and right, front and rear positions. My question involves the 4 floor standers. Is it advisable to have floor standing speakers in the rear or would bookshelf speakers be better for the movie watching?
if you have room for the floor standing speakers sound better for music then the small satellite speaker even with a good sub. the small speaker do OK for TV viewing but for music they do not sound as good as a good full sized speaker. For the rears the large Speaker is not as important as the sound unless you are in 5 stereo is mostly coming from the front speakers the rears are just effects and fill sound so smaller is ok for the rears.

I need help and tell me specifically what to do step by step and what equipment I need exactly and give me the best equipment and the price doesn't matter
You need to connect the speakers to a 5.1 a/v receiver. Then you need to send the PS3 audio to the receiver via an optical cable while sending the video to the TV via HDMI or component video cables.
I'd look for any mid-ranged Denon, Onkyo, Harmon/Kardon or Yamaha receiver. The Onkyo TX-SR606 is a fine, affordable model that has HDMI switching capabilities.
I hope you didn't get suckered into buying those Bose speakers already because they are a ripoff. Way overpriced. Try this instead:

The satellite speakers are at least as good as the Bose and the sub is much better. You get that and a good receiver for $785, $86 more* that just the Bose speakers. And it comes with speaker cable, a subwoofer cable, an HDMI cable and an iPod dock. Killer deal if you ask me.

Quick Guide to ipod Accessories for your iPod Nano 8GB
There are many ways to accessorize your iPod Nano 8GB. The market for iPod accessories has realized incredible growth over the past few years. This may be one of the reasons the iPod Nano 8GB has been able to dominate the digital MP3 player market.
Even though the iPod Nano 8GB has small, internal speakers, they dont play audio files so the need for iPod accessories is great. Youll only be able to hear the beep from the alarm clock or warning tones through the internal speaker. External speakers will allow you to share your tunes with friends and family.
External speakers for the iPod Nano 8GB work great at barbecues and picnics. With the FM tuner, users have the option of listening to the radio rather than listening to their stored music. This is one of the better iPod accessories for people who enjoy listening to live radio.
