I have an LCD TV, an Xbox360 and a Bose Lifestyle® 25 Series II home theater system 5.1 surround sound. I just want to watch satellite TV in surround sound. Can I set up my speaker systems to my TV for surround sound? Or does it have to route through my xbox 360 and use it when I watch movies?

Your system will not accept a external DD input only 2 channel audio. The best you can hope for is pro logic sound, sorry.

Get rid of the Bose and get a new cheaper system, that will have way better sound and flexibility. Bose is overrated.

I'm trying set up and outdoor surround speaker system with a media player type of thing in the pool house. we have a media server at my house as well but i don't know much about outdoor sound systems. I have the speaker wires run around for the speakers i just don't have the speakers or main feed device - tuner/head/whatever it's called. If you know anywhere online or anywhere else that sells these things for an affordable price. I'd appreciate you telling me. Thank you.

I would try Best Buy or any store that sell TV's and stereos. What you need is a home theater receiver and some outdoor speakers. Outdoor speakers are pretty much like any speaker except they are treated to work in wet environments.

I liked the Logitech Z-5500 but no wireless rear speakers so something like that with wireless rear speakers would be great.

There is no such thing as "true" wireless rear speakers, but there is a way to make them seem wireless. Well in my home I use a Samsung HT-X40 surround system because it had the optical input for the PS3. Then I plugged my rear speakers into a wireless kit. Then I hid the wireless kit under the sofa. This setup is kind of expensive but not as expensive as top market. Either way, if you want "wireless" this is the way. check the links in my "what's your source."

I have a brand new speaker system, and my room mate is a smoker. I put my surround system in the living room, where he always smokes like 5 times a day. I was just wondering if the smoke in the air would affect the speakers? For example, could the speakers quality be affected?
As well, can cold temperatures cause speakers to blow, because i have my surround set up around a huge bay window, that gets quite drafty in the winter. I think its just a myth about the cold weather and speakers, but can someone confirm this?

Smoke will not do any more than just leave a film on the
speakers after time. Smoke will harm a TV over time
however.

Cold weather will not hinder the speakers performance
but moister will by possibly affecting the electrical con-
nections as with any electronic component. Moisture
can also make the wood products flex which could in
effect change the integrity of the cabinet.

These are all extreme cases, so I wouldn't worry too
much over this. Your lungs are going to be much
more affected by this second-hand smoke than any
speaker system by far.

I am thinking of buying the Philips HTS 6500 home theatre as I do not want to worry about cables. I like that it is sleek and compact with HDMI upgrade, but I am concerned that I can not use it to play normal HDTV programming through the speakers. Does anyone know if you can connect the system to an HDTV and still play normal HDTV through the speakers?

According to the units specs, you can connect up to 2 other devices to it for sound. It should have a digital coax input for digital audio, and it also has a a set of stereo inputs. The fact that is is only a 2.1 system you may not see much of a difference in hooking up the digital coax vs the stereo, but you can definitely use it as the speakers for your TV as well as for movies.
