I have stereo pc speakers plugged into sound card that play fine. Bought a flat screen monitor that has speakers on it and can't seem to get them to play. I've checked everything. Nothing is muted. I change settings and still no sound.
Did you connect the audio cable from the monitor to the sound card.
Did you raise the volume from the monitor, i.e. Vol- Vol+ buttons.

I have a cord that splits at one end. I know where to plug it into the computer and into the monitor but there is no sound! I have gone to audio settings in control panel and changed my setup from 2 speakers to Stereo Monitor Speakers. Still no sound! Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Can you use studio monitors for regular speakers? Thanks!
Yes you can!
I have been using two high quality studio monitors with my audio/video system for years and they sound great.
I have these:

They are no longer made but there are many others out there:

You would need to find a "passive" monitor to connect to a normal home audio system.
The big trend in studio monitors now is "powered monitors" that have the amplifier built in. These could be used with a home system too but they would not connect to a speaker output but they would connect to a "line" output.

I have 2 100W @ 8ohm monitors (speakers) and I have a cheap home stereo rated at 80W @ 6ohms. My question is how could I wire them to get the highest possible power output and still achieve a stereo image?
Both speakers have the usual +/- terminals and my home stereo has 4 terminals a Left +/- and a Right +/-.
I was thinking maybe parallel wiring them? any ideas
I know a home stereo is not the best solution to powering these monitors but for now I don't really have a choice. I am working with what I have, buying an amp is not a choice right now.
Place one speaker on each channel unless you want to ruin your stereo system. You have two each 8 ohm speakers on a 6 ohm system. That is a pretty good match if not an exact match. But two 8 ohm speakers in parallel would be 4 ohms which might load down your stereo system. And then their would be the problem of no speaker for the other channel (left or right). And connecting the left and the right together would most likely damage the stereo system (especially anything that powerful, would not damage the cheap low wattage ones but yours is 80 watts). Just connect one speaker to the left channel and one to the right channel.
there are a few ways to do this if you are using usb headphones most likely they overode your on-board sound and or sound card, in this case you will have to go into your multimedia properties and change the sound playback device to your sound card. you can get there by right clicking on the little speaker icon in your task bar and going to adjust audio properties. if you are using regular 3.5mm stereo headphones there are a few things to try, as on some computers mine included if headphones are plugged in sound will only come out of the headphones you have to unplug them for sound to come out of your monitor speakers. also make sure you have your speakers plugged into the right port on your sound card its 99 percent of the time the green input. in the off chance that neither of these work try reinstalling your sound card drivers it may just be a glitch of some kind it happened to me before. on top of this all make sure the speakers you are trying to use are ON!

Artcoustic vomits bling allover its Crystal line of wall-mounted ...
It's a bit hard to tell if Artcoustic's latest wall-mounted, ultrathin loudspeakers, the Crystal line, are incredibly horrid or insanely awesome. There's no denying that high-end loving audiophiles are enticed by the brand -- but the Crystal line? Well, let's just say that adding a bunch of Swarovskis to any product won't necessarily make it better. Regardless, these bad boys are customizable and if you're into ostentation, they probably belong in your apartment. There's also a matching iPod dock available, and it'll run you about $3700 to get one, speaker included.
Wow, what a good idea, lets take a decent speaker, cover it in diamonds (which I'm sure are just crappy I or low SI diamonds if they are even real) just to make it even more expensive, and then use a low sound quality input source playing low quality mp3 files. Why would you even hook your ipod/zune/whatever up to this? If your already at home (Doesn't look exactly portable) you should have something nearby that outputs much better sound if your in the market for a speaker this expensive.
