I have a 1995 JVC stereo receiver, 2 Sony tower speakers and a Sony XBR4 42" LCD. In addition, I have an HD DVR cable box.
I should start by saying I don't know much about connecting components, so I'm kind of trying to use common sense but that's about all I've got in terms of knowledge.
What I've done is to connect the stereo receiver to the cable box with an RCA cable. through the audio out, and the other end to the stereo receiver through the video sound/tape 2 spot. When I hit the video sound button on the front of the receiver, I can toggle between the radio tuner and the sound from the TV. The problem I'm having with this is that when the TV sound is coming through the speakers and the TV, it sounds like I'm in a sports stadium listening to the announcer - a really annoying echo sound.
I don't know if I have it hooked up wrong, or if I should plug the cable in somewhere else on the receiver, or what! Any suggestions will be tried out & appreciated.
Thanks!
Maybe your hearing both the TV sound and the stereo receiver sound, which are possibly not in sync. Try turning down or muting the sound on the TV to see if that is the problem.
I keep my TV sound turned down and only use my stereo sound.
Other than that, being in the tape2 spot shouldn't be a problem on the receiver end. The only other thing would be the cable box not working as it should. You might also eliminate that thought by unhooking the RCA plugs from the cable box and hooking up to the back of the TV via the audio out and see if that is any better.
Good luck
Newest addition are the Nordost Blue Heaven speaker cables, my god they are fantastic! I will be a getting a pre-amplifier very soon so expect ...
I have a 32" LCD Philips TV, and i wanna know if i can hook up my stereo speakers to the regular cable. There is no "audio out" ports on the back of the tv with the white and red things...i do see that on other tvs, does this mean i cant hook them up?
Although there is a port that says "spdif out" (coaxil?) and i know that has to do with audio, but i have no clue what it does?
spdif is digital audio. You would have to run the digital audio signal into an AV receiver capable of using it... then you could have true dolby digital surround sound.

you are going to need an adapter like this :
http://www.starcom-edv.de/shop/pics/adap ter_klinkenbuchse35_2xcinch.jpg
It is called 'Click Adapter 3,5 mm Jack/ 2x Cinch Jack stereo .
You put those Red and White ending into one side of this adapter and your speakers ending goes to the other side of this adapter.
good luck

The stereo speaker cables are the red and black wires. My computer doesn't support the wires, only the plugs. Is there anything I can buy to use them?
You need an amplifier.
I've got an iBook G4 and would like to start a bit of music production on it... My problem doesn't lie in software but my real problem is using the small speakers on the laptop. I was wondering is there any sort of lead that can connect the laptop with my stereo speakers so I can hear the sound from there?
I looked on my speakers to see the Headphone jack since I have the 3.5mm cables you all speak of... but there is no jack on either speakers... BUT there are 2 red and white sockets (for left and right speakers) on the main bit of the stereo. Is there a cable that connects that to the laptop?
If your stereo has a line input you can get a lead to go from the head phone socket on your pc to the input of the stereo.
