When buying stereo components a Stereo receiver is enough to power speakers. Why are amplifiers necessary?
My at-home listening room

A receiver is an amp, preamplifier and tuner all in one chassis.

If you purchased a 'receiver' with no internal power, you did not buy a receiver. You purchased a tuner.

Many audiophiles prefer to have their components separated..amplifier, preamplifier and tuner...hence a cleaner audio signal.

External amplifiers are not necessary with true receivers.

Can hook up my bookshelf speakers (80w, 6 ohm, 2 wires from each), to a component stereo amp?

Bookshelf stereo = Panasonic SA-PM91D
Each speaker has one wire - split to black & red
one wire - split to "blue" & "grey"
They are 3-way speakers

Component system is old Kenwood KS-5500 (1976), but is mint. Has standard speaker wire (black & red) connections.

Hooking speakers up to an amp who ever heard of such a crazy thing!.

Yes you can just connect the wires it will either work or it won't not enough power goes through a speaker wire to do any damage.

Multimedia speakers VS Stereo Component system?

I listen Music mainly on my dell laptop and recently brought a Mp3 player (not ipod family)

my question is "are HK and logitech speakers deliver much better quality than the Sony's 3cd Music system for 100 $ ?

A Sony MHCEC55-Mini Hi-Fi Component System 3 CD Changer

(Just Speakers system)
Logitech Z-2300 ,
Harman Kardon SoundSticks II

The price range is closely equall on all these three. ~100- 130$

First you have to know that multimedia speaker is like satelite speaker which can provide surround sound system.

You have to ask yourself you prefer music or movies ?
If for movies you go for Logitech where the high end is even THX certified. If for music go for HK soundstick .
The HK is very impressive where the clarity is very clear .
For music fans , its better than logitech . Dont look at the size , listen to the quality. You can listen at store and you will know.

There is no speaker that is suitable for both music and movies. For real music listener , stereo 2 channel is the best because we do not want the surround sound effect play on music because this will distort the sound clarity .

My personal opinion will be HK soundstick and im using them too . Music is :) . Check out the review at amazon and ebay and other will say its the best multimedia speaker.
As far i know , only klipsh speaker have the same rating with HK soundstick for multimedia speaker .

An bout Sony , not up to that standard for sound quality unless you buy the high end model which is too expensive and not worth it .

Car Stereo - Can I put 4 component speakers and a subwoofer on a mono amplifier?

I have a Crunch P1100.2...

4 Polk DB651 component speakers...

Can I put all 4 of the speakers and my sub on the same channel? I asked if you could put 4 speakers and a subwoofer on the same 2 channel amp, and people said you can't do that. So I am going to bridge my amp to make it 1 channel...then can I put my sub on it?

You can but it will sound terrible. You need a 5 channel amp for all those speakers.

How do I connect stereo speakers to receiver for TV audio?

How can I connect basic stereo speakers to my receiver for TV audio? I have an older mitsubishi receiver. I have connected the speakers to the receiver and I've connected the TV to the receiver using input/output jacks using the video component jacks on the back of the receiver. I have the right component selected (Video/AUX) but I'm not getting sound from the speakers.

What could be wrong? How do I fix it?

Alright ,Tom let's get down to it. An older Mitsubishi is always a great unit. It should always work for you, so it must be a cable, or switch setting problem on the "M". OK, first the speaker setting on the "M". Which speaker terminals did you go into with your speaker wires, "A" or "B"?

Make sure the speaker terminals you went into in the back matches the speaker selection switch setting on front (A, B, Both, etc).

OK, now, your older "M" will not have "video" inputs on the back, and you don't bring audio into video inputs. (read your question again) Look at your TV. You must come out of the "Audio Out" RCA terminals of your TV, and, in an older stereo, you go into "audio in", or into "tape in" or "tape monitor input".

Then, if you go into the "tape in", or "tape monitor in" inputs from your TV, you must have the selector swich on your "M" set on "Tape", because your stereo will think your TV is a tape player.

OK, something is wrong, but it's simple. Check out what I told you, re-plug your wires/cables, and if it still doesn't work, click on my avatar, go to my profile page, email me, and we will fix it, or else something else is broken (not likely).

I'll be watching the question, it always "ticks me off" if a box of electronics tries to "kick my butt".

Holler if you need me, Magyver.

If we all want, we look forward to in life? At least, that is exactly what I all I say. I, however, seems to be the king of low prices. I wanted to find what I am wishing for a long time, and it seems cheap, but I do not want to buy something, and I believe cheaper. In any case, I have a tendency to find the best price before buying the product, I want to.
