Right now in windows i have my speaker config set to 5.1
I have creative SB live! 5.1 sound card and altec lansing 5.1 speakers.
On the speaker's control panel there is a switch "2/4" and "6" with 6 being the setting if you are connected to a 6 channel sound card, which I am.
Anyway, when playing tracks I hear sound from every speaker except the center speaker. Since I DO hear sounds from the rear speakers, does this mean WMP11 is upmixing to surround sound or no? DO i need some sort of plugin.
I also tried playing an hdtv clip in WMP11 to see if i could get teh center speaekr to work and it still didn't. I thought the center speaker output the speaker's voice in a track, but I hear the voice of the person talking (in the clip) throughout all 4 speakers.
Also, another issue is that WMP11 video skips when playing HD files, but the audio does not skip.

I have a new computer with two soundcards. One is High-definition Audio integrated on the ASUS motherboard and the second is Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit PCI card. I use the SoundBlaster for a digitial audio input from my set-top box which allows me to hear audio from my TV, e.g. hear music broadcasted on MTV Hits channel. However, the music does not play on all of my speakers, it only plays stereo (left and right speaker, but no center, no subwoofer, no surround speakers). Music that is not played through the subwoofers lacks very much. Also all of my MP3 music is stereo only and Windows Media Player of Winamp play it on left & right speakers only. I have installed the latest driver from Creative Labs and I see I have Audio Console in my Control Panel. I switched the CMSS 3D on, but the music still does not get through the subwoofer. How do I enable bass redirection in Windows Vista for my SoundBlaster?
I may be wrong in this but I believe the SB Live is not fully supported in Vista. If I were you, I would just grab a newer and better card that will do what you want with much better sound. Get an X-Fi.
Otherwise, I would visit Creative Labs forums and ask around there about the Live card and Vista surround sound support.

CVE22
I have a dell inspiron 530 computer tower. all of my surround stereo wires are plugged into a "sony control center"/amplifier which is plugged into the back of the tower into the green jack, front L/R line-out connector. when i plug my headphones into the headphone jack in the front my headphones don't work and the stereo stays on. if i unplug the back and then plug in the headphones to the front the headphones will work.
how can i make it so that i don't have to keep reaching behind the tower and unplugging my stereo if i want to use my headphones?
thanks for the input.
If you have the Audigy sound card..go to start/all programs/creative/creative audio hq/device controls..then check the mute audio w/headphones box or check the soundcard installed on your computer in your control panel for settings.
Cheers

yea its fine.
Won't be cheap though...and i can't see why you'd get 8gb of RAM and not any firewire capability...i mean i can't see how you'd ever need that much ram...your video cards each have enough memory between themselves.
Firewire is just neat thing to have...you don't need it for gaming though. But if you want to transfer information between an external hard drive and your main hard drive its much quicker than USB.

If anyone could give me any advice and insight on which is the better choice I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.
I believe personally that the HP will be the best. It is cost effiecient and more reliable. The Gateway is too expensive for the hardware you have configured and it will not be as reliable.
