I have a 98 Nissan Altima. When I bought it, someone had replaced the original stereo with a pretty nice Alpine stereo, but left the original speakers in the car. In general, things sound nice... but the passenger side front speaker is HORRIBLE. It is so crackly, and any song that has something remotely resembling bass makes the crackling noise even worse. It sounds horrible. So, what is wrong with this speaker, and how can I fix it? I want to buy a new speaker but I don't know what kind to buy, what brand, etc. Generally, I want it to be able to fit *behind* the existing speaker grill, since this is the only speaker being replaced, and it doesn't have to be a very good speaker. I'm just looking for something cheap to bring that speaker to the same quality level as the speakers in the rest of the car, which isn't asking for too much.
BTW, No Bose sound system... thank you very much for your help! Now that I know sort-of what I need to do, I think I can get it done. Thanks!
The speaker is blown, it must have torn or cracked.
First thing is, does your car have the Bose sound system with Bose speakers?..If so you will need to have the speaker professionally switched out because if you hook up a regular speaker to the Bose system it will not work, you need a special adapter. if there is no Bose system you would just need a 6" round speaker put in, which would be easy if you just pop off the door pannel, being careful not to break the clips, which sould not be too hard if you do it carefully.
You will know if your system says Bose or "Active Speaker" either on the radio or speaker grills..
An update with the rest of the products that came with the system. Complete Mint Technics stereo system. I got this off Craigslist for $80!!! It ...
I need someone with speaker AUTHORITY.
I have 4 1/2 inch speakers measured diagonally across the speaker grill hole to hole for screw mounting. The speakers are old but fairly decent still. Just some distortion when I pump up the volume a little to hear as I go down the road at 70 mph. Pioneer TS-1044k. 4 ohm. The power output on the speakers are 30w. Max music power 10 w nom. power.
The car stereo is a Sanyo with 25 watts rms at 8 ohms per channel. 4 channels.. It works just fine . I have front speakers I bought last year that are ok.
I really need to couple up the rear speakers for a real nice super sound. No distortion. I would spend a few bucks for the right kind, but not the moon. I am not a boom box blaster type but like Real quality sound. My ears are getting not as acute as when I was young. I do not want to be driven out of the VW Vanagon either. I like just about everything but rap, country, and Barbara Striesend. I like new age, Jazz, classical, old school rock. Neil Young. Now these I would like to hear the words. Blues, Blue grass. Get the sound and style I am into?
Please help me mate the exact right sounding speakers. Please no distortion. A clean clear full range with some bass, but thumping not needed.
Like I saw some speakers that went for $5.99 all the way up to $200. a speaker. I think that $200 might be a little too pricey. Just keep me in the ball park and hit a small home run. Thanks.
Ken
First of all, speakers don't have power output. Depending on their impedance and the amplifier you have, they'll receive a certain amount of power from the amplifier.
It is my professional option that rear speakers suck! I haven't used rear speakers in about 15 years. Also, $200 for speakers isn't too too bad. Check out Rainbows at $10k a set! lol.
Anyway, If it was my vehicle, I'd look into a better quality 4" for the front with an amplifier to push them. Make sure they're installed real well with quality baffling and a decent crossover. Nowhere will you find a "quality rear stage." In your top of the line home theater systems, all the main speakers are in front of you. At a concert, the speakers are in front of you. Etc. etc. etc. Why would your car be any different?
If you absolutely must have rear speakers for some reason, knock yourself out. Also, upgrading that horrible deck would be a step in the right direction. Sanyo has never made a quality unit and they never will. Sorry bro ... truth of the matter. Get a pioneer, alpine, eclipse, clarion, kenwood, jvc, panasonic, something other then Sanyo. That with some better speakers and you may be in business. If you're still not satisfied with your sound, I'd look to amplifying the fronts. If you're looking for more low end, look to a sub solution of some sort. Doesn't have to be 2 12" or anything like that. One 8" can often do the trick, or the right pair of 6".
I'm not sure if I answered any of your questions or not. Regardless, I hope some of the info is helpful to you. peace.

My wife bought me a Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW, I noticed it has only one speaker grill on left hand corner, can anyone tell me if it's stereo. I find it hard to think it has only one mono speaker in this day aqnd age, anyone help please.
the sound card can handle stereo, but unless the speakers are far enough apart, it sounds like its coming from the same spot anyway( like one speaker)
to get the advantage, you need speakers or headphones,
also, the sound quality on those speakers is not as good as external speakers or headphones,
so if you want good qualitly, you need to get some speakers.

i have a 1992 bmw convertable and the speakers are built into the back of the car but they arent like a circle there rectangle shaped and have a plastic grill built in to cover them. and the front ones arent on the door there by were you put your feet what should i do
You can probably get to the back speakers through the trunk, take out the old ones and buy new ones to fit the factory enclosure.
The front speakers in the door can be accessed by either removing the cover over the speakers and removing the screws that hold them in, or taking off the door liner.
Good luck.
ok so i bought a nissan truck and im not familar that much with truck systems BUT i know alot about cars and big boxes ,,,
so heres my problem i dont have much space behind my seats and i cant find a box for my nissan hardbody so im gonna make one but i was measuring my old speakers and there like 10'' long plus 2 for the grill if i make a box it would maybe have 2to 3 inches space from the wood ... so will these speakers sound good in it or am i gonna have to break down and get a shallow mount speaker which i really dont want im pushin a jl audio 500.1 amp with 4 gauge rockford fosgate amp kit and before in my other car it broke my mirrors and cracked my glass so i wont that system in my truck lol
to "megan" im gonna have to find somewhere to put it inside the truck because the truck is bagged and it has a fuelcell when ur talkin about putin the lock box so my beds useless
u can always make a custom center console....and have it go from front to back of the cab...and stuff sum subs in it that way..check out sum truck mags..you mite see sumthin that can spark ur imagination, and give u an idea for sumthin sick that nobody has..or even go get ur cab blueprinted so u get the measurements for ur subs so it can slap its max with what u got..or you can always mount them facing up if u have the room...
