Stereo Speakers Installation

I'm looking at purchasing this vehicle but it doesn't come with a sound system of any sort...does anyone have an idea of how much this would cost? Google doesn't really help. Also does anyone have any experience with this type of vehicle in general? Thanks!!

it depends on the shop that does the install. But figure high, around $300 for total install at a minimum.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am 2 door coupe. My right front door speaker is blown and needs to be fixed. I have no experience installing speakers in a car and I'm wondering if it is a hard thing to do with this model of a car. Also, I want an aux jack so that I can hook up my Creative Zen to the stereo. Would it be better to a) Buy a new stereo or b) buy some sort of device that hooks into my current factory stereo? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Replace the blown speaker with a stock replacement. It will sound off if you just replace one without replacing the other. Installing new speakers can be difficult in some cases, depending on the depth and size of the new ones. Also, keep in mind that stock speakers are generally very efficient - so running new speakers on a stock stereo really won't have much of an effect on the sound.

As for hooking up your mp3 player - it would be far easier to buy a head unit with an AUX input. I don't know if a converter is made for your particular stock head unit. You'd have to do that reaserch on your own. If you have a tape player, those tape adapters seem to work pretty well.

Most of the time if you spend alot of money on equiptment you can sometimes get a free install but chances are if you arent spending atleast 1000 or more you wont get that. because you have to think of shop fees and the person or persons installing the system in the car or truck, and use of tools and the use of connectors for free and a few other details in the whole install process. Honestly you will not get quality work for free but you can get a quick install that will probly give you problems down the road for free. and half the time the free installs doesnt come with a waranty on the install.

Question: I am installing a set of new Polk seperates and have one side in. The problem is the factory side sounds better than the new speakers. What am I doing wrong?

I have:
Made sure the woofers are sealed (no air gaps) in the factory locations,
Double checked the wiring.

I have an amp to put in which will provide about 75w RMS to each front set. I know this will help, but shouldn't the new speakers sound better than the factory speakers now?

I would say drop everything!

Put the amp in. Run the speakers directly to the amp, with larger (16-12ga speaker wire ) making sure the +&- are properly wired. If possible, isolate the stereo running an 8ga wire (fused) and the same size ground. The more current provided to the stereo, the more efficient it will perform.

You will not be happy with the amp in the stereo itself. Especially if you bought spankin new components.

Installing the external amp is like night & day. (quality wise)

Placement of your tweeters is key in an installation also. You should keep your tweeters as close to the midrange as possible, but still be able to agle them to be directed toward your ear.

Put a little sound deadening around the speakers, and they should scream well beyond the factory system. Sound deaden the whole door for best results (optional, but since you have the door panel off anyway!)

Bass blockers are also suggested to keep the bass meant for subwoofers out of your new midrages. You can also use the x-over in the stereo. Most Alpines have this feature now

The reason that that it may have sounded better originally is:
1: There is anexternal amp you are unaware of.
2: One of your speakers is hooked up backward(out of phase)
3 The factory stereo was only designed to sound good wth the components provided with the vehicle. i.e. smaller guage wiring, 6 ohm impedance maybe?

Remember, you will only get out of it what u put into it. All these steps will give you improved sound quality! Guarenteed

Well my car has only two speakers out of four. Is there ant way it could affect the radio ? because it does not work at all, I have installed everything as it should be..and nothing happens. The radio just does not turn on.. Help !!!!
I just want to know if any missing speaker affects the radio, not any advise with the wiring. Every one is as it should be and the radio is brand new, still smelling a chinese food...since it comes from china ( sony brand)

missing speakers will not affect the radio UNLESS there were speakers there originally and the wires are hanging and touching metal or each other such as positive and negative.Usually the wires are hanging.Just check and tape any wires hanging from the previous speakers. To double check...get a cheap speaker and hook radio directly to 1 speaker in your hand and check each channel 1 by 1 with the speaker...not using the factory speaker wiring or nothing.This will eliminate that part of the trouble shooting leaving the problem in the radio/amp,etcc
