Stereo Speakers Wiring

I have a 1984 toyota supra and i bought new speakers, stereo and installed new speaker wire (14 gauge with just red and black wire) and i don't know how to install the new speakers and stereo. any help, or a referral to a website that can help would be great.

My stereo kept turning off randomly after an hour or 2 and not coming back on for a few days (aiwa xh-1000). I noticed i wired the speakers backwards, pos to neg. I switched them and it now seems to have worked although it has only been on a short while now. Can wiring speakers incorrectly cause this problem or is there something else i should be looking for?

No.

The positive and negative on a speaker is only to keep the signal (and therefore the sound) in phase. You cannot damage an amplifier by wiring the speakers incorrectly - all that happens is that you lose 'definition' in the music.

But, if you touch the two cables together at the speaker end, when they are plugged into the amp, that can cause an internal short, though.

However, you if you look up the XH-1000 on the net, you will find that they are quite prone to the problems you are having.

i just got two new aiwa stereo speaker's they come with their own wiring in the back but i dont know which wire is what

there is one black wire
and there is another black with gray dashes

im thinking the one with dashes is positive?

Chances are the marked wire is positive. For your purposes it doesn't matter a whole lot. The phasing (which DOES matter) will be correct as long as you are consistent with both speakers.

If you can remove the front grill or otherwise see the speaker cone directly, you can check the polarity with a AA or other 1-1/2 volt battery. The cone will move forward when the positive wire is *briefly* touched to the positive terminal of the battery while the negative wire is held on the negative terminal. If you see it move back, you've connected the wires in reverse.

I found this one here: http://www.modifiedlife.com/1994-nissan- sentra-car-radio-stereo-wiring-diagram/ but it says there are three Pink wires. There's not even three pink wires coming out of the car.

The chassis/clip has been removed (by previous owner) and all that is left is the wires. All that is needed is a list of the colors and what they go to. Thanks.

I have a set of old stereo speakers - they have bare wires at the back (two for each speaker - one wire in each set has a white stripe on it).

I want to wire them to a single 3.5mm stereo jack plug which in turn will go into an amplifier - can anybody please tell me how best to do this?

You can't turn speakers into an amplifier. If they are amplified speakers, they will work. Old stereo speakers need a separate amplifier.

A stereo jack plug has 3 connectors called body ring and tip. Body is the one connected to the largest bit of metal and the two wires with white stripes connect to that. The other wire for the left hand speaker goes to the tip and for the right hand speaker to the ring.
