How can i connect my surrond sound speakers to my ps2 and projector?

I have a epson emp s4 projector and have connected the ps2 up to the projector which is fine but i have surround sound speakers which is 5.1 even tough i don't know what that means. i have a wire that connects to speaker and then has the red and white plug which i had connected it to the projector along with the yellow wire of the ps2 but still didnt work. Can you please answer the question in very simple language as i dont know what the wires are called

You need a Receiver to produce the 5.1 surround sound. The projector, at best will only produce 2.0 sound ( 2 channel speakers - Front Rightand left) The 5.1 refers to 5 speakers and a subwoofer ( the .1) The 5 speakers are 2 fronts, 2 back speakers and a center (for dialogue and 1 channel movies) A special cable from the PS2 is needed to send the digiatal surround sound encoding to the receiver. I am not sure what the PS2 has, it is either an optical cable jack ( small sqaure looking hole with a "trap"door and it will say optical out over or under the jack. If it is coaxial, it looks like an RCA (Red and Whte type) jack but only specially designed cable can be used. You would need to connect the speakers to the receiver. don;t even use the projector for sound as it will only produce a stereo sound at best

Can I take me subwoofer(8") and surrond sound speakers(2" each) abroad via ferry to france???

Yes, and be sure that its not pack it in a suspicious manner. If you still have the box that has labels that they are speakers, its more ok. And make it easily accessible for inspection.

Do i need a reciever to hook my ps3 up to surrond sound speakers?

you can connect to any stereo or sound system, but you can't connect to 5.1 speakers directly. the composite cables (white and red) can also be used for connecting to any speaker system. just add a coupling to the end of the wires coming out of the ps3 and run to any sound system that will take the plugs instead of the tv. my surround at my camp doesn't support optical or hdmi and this is what i do. you will still get surround sound if your system supports it.

How do you calibrate speakers in a surrond sound system?

Is there a dvd or cd, to walk you through it? I would hate to miss out on good sound because it's not set up right. The owners manual isn't very helpful.

I agree with jpick365, here are the directions again along with a link:

I recommend the following procedure for proper level calibration of your 5.1 Surround System:

Select a common listening position.
Adjust the master volume of your Receiver/Preamp to a common listening level you are accustomed to (say 75dB).
Initiate the Receiver/Preamp test tone.
Allow the test tone to sweep each speaker in your system.
Adjust the volume levels of each channel until they sound similar in volume. It is preferable to use an SPL meter (C-weighing, Fast Response) for greater accuracy.

So basically your turning on the test tone, which sounds like static, and then as it goes from speaker to speaker you are turning the volume of each individual speaker up and down until they all sound the same loudness. G'luck.

does anyone know of a universal remote that can be used to set up the speakers on a surrond sound system?

My daughter threw away my panasonic surround sound system remote and now I can't fix my speakers.

I think you may need to get another one from Panasonic, because even if you get a new aftermarket remote, I think you need the original remote to program it. I think a replacement from Panasonic would probably be cheaper too. They're in Seacaucus NJ. Check the Web.
