I just bought a surround sound speaker system from someone for my computer. When I turn it on it makes a horrible humming and static noise through all of the speakers even though the speakers themselves are turned all the way down as is the sub. Is it just irreparably broken? Is it a fuse problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to throw it away right after getting it.
Do you have the wires connected correctly? Sounds like you have it hooked to an input rather than an output.
Hooking up surround-sound speakers is step one to setting up a home theater. Knowing where to position your surround-sound speakers — subwoofers ...
and right front speakers to produce any sound. All the drivers appear to be updated properly and the red and black connections. I have a brand new Xfi Fatalty Pro card and Vista. Ihad everything working last week until I reformatted my PC again. What can I do to solve the problem? Thanks!
1. Uninstall all the Creative Soundcard from device manager.
2. Uninstall all Creative software not just the drivers as the software does install additional software
3. Turn off computer but do no restart as of yet. Windows may be using generic drives and not hardware specific ones.
4. Check the speaker connections into the sound card making sure you are not plugging them into say aux device or mic ect,
5. Turn on again and reinstall the Creative Sound card using your install CD making sure you are using the Vista drivers.
6. Reboot
7. Go to the Creative site and update your Creative drivers and applications. There is an option to install an active x control that allows the site to scan your computer and choose the correct updates for you or you can do it manually.

I have logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers and a 22 inch HDMI monito. I am going to hook my Xbox 360 into this 22 inch HDMI monitor but dont want to use the two HORRIBLE speakers that are built into the monitor, I want to use my surround sound. Since I am hooking up VIA HDMI doesn't the sound travel via HDMI to the monitor? Or is there a seperate sound channel that needs to be hooked up, in which case I can just plug it into my surround sound speakers. So all in all I am asking if HDMI transfers both sound and video or just video and if it transfers both then can I hook up my surround sound?
Yes, HDMI will carry both the sound and video.
If your TV has an output, feed this to your Logitech systems.
But check the cable that comes out of the xbox. Mine has a Toslink optical jack that I run straight to a spare input on my receiver. You may need to do this if your TV only has L/R outputs and not coaxial/optical for 5.1 sound.
PS: I'm looking forward to the Simpsons game tomorrow.
Optical cables transfer the signal using light, thus completely eliminating any chance for RFI, EMI or ground loop interference
Connect your DVD, CD, Mini Disc, or Game Console System for clear, full and rich detailed sound
GOLD-PLATED FERRULE prevents corrosion and provides for maximum protection of the fiber tip
Toslink Digital Audio Cable provides you the cleanest possible signal, even at extreme volume levels
The stylish PVC HEAVY 5.0mm JACKET helps prevent cable damage and adds flexibility and durability for years of listening pleasure
A friend of mine wants to buy some speakers for her pc and wants to know if anybody out there has ever bought these kind or if it's a waste of money. Any info any of you can give would be appreciated.
well I found a review here http://peripherals.about.com/od/speakers andheadphones/fr/frisby5-1.htm that say it is ok for the price (~$80), however having never heard them it is difficult to recommend. The obvious over-rating of 3000W doesn't help any.
Personally I would get these since they are in the same price range, and I have heard them in my local best buy

The next set up sounded a lot nicer (crisper highs and deeper lows) but it is double the price

Chances are if you are not listening to a lot of music you may never know, the cheaper one is good enough for 5,1 games
cheers
I have an Emerson flat panel tv with the headphone jack on the side, I can plug in computer speakers to the jack but then sound only comes out of the speakers, I wana know if i can put speakers behind me and still have sounds coming from the onboard speakers my tv has.
Even if the speakers on the TV stayed on, it would not be surround sound.
True surround sound sends diffent signals to front, center, and rear speakers.
Unfortunatly, theres nothing you can do to get the tv speakers to stay on with the ones plugged into the headphone jack.
