It's the speaker wire that don't have any plugs at the end, you put the wire in to a socket at the back of a DVD player & snap down the red or black catch.

Not sure what products you want to wire up to.
As you have phonos, rca, scarts, componets, all these may be on the back of you surround sound. Yes it is possible for you to do what you want, if you give more info, then we can all help you.

Hey guys,
If I have regular 5.1-channel surround sound PC speakers, and a logitech game adapter (that converts 2 red-and-white RCA audio plugs to a 3.5mm audio plug), will the speakers output proper surround sound when plugged into a DVD player? If not, is there anything I can buy to get proper surround sound out of the PC speakers when plugged into a DVD player?
In order for you to get true surround sound the source needs to be broadcasting in surround sound.
-Your DVD player needs to be able to handle Surrounr sound.
-Also the Movie You are watching needs to be in Surround Sound (Dolby Digital Surround in the movie's audio settings)
Toslink Digital Audio Cable provides you the cleanest possible signal, even at extreme volume levels
Optical cables transfer the signal using light, thus completely eliminating any chance for RFI, EMI or ground loop interference

My boyfriend has a playstation 3 with his LCD TV..
SO- I want to get him surround sound for this, but he doesnt want a new blu ray or DVD player because he only uses the playstation. Can I buy only speakers and connect to this??
Do I need an adapter for it?? What exactly would I need to buy for his present?
THANK YOU
No, you can not hook up speakers to a PS3. Home theaters can be a little tough to set up, but they're worth it. The good news here is the expensive part--the TV and PS3--are already taken care of.
In order to have a surround sound system you need to run the PS3 to a receiver (via HDMI) that is hooked up to the 5.1 speaker system. You will also run the hi-def cable to the receiver (via HDMI). Then you hook the receiver to the TV (via HDMI). So you definitely need a receiver and 5.1 speaker system. What you don't need is another Blu-Ray player because he already has the best.
So what receiver do you get? You need something with at least 2 "HDMI in" ports and at least 1 "HDMI out" ports. What you don't need to worry too much about is what kind of audio codecs the receiver decodes. The PS3 already handles all of that. So look for something from Onkyo, Yamaha, Sony, Denon, Harmon Kardon. I have an Onkyo TX-SR606 and it works great, though it may be more than you need.
For a speakers I highly recommend the Polk RM6750 5.1 speaker system. You can get it on newegg.com for $200. That's a steal. Whatever you do, don't buy anything by Bose.

Here's a list I created on amazon.com that details a relatively inexpensive way to set up a home theater system:

Are you trying to run surround speakers from a standard sound card?
If so, there are better solutions - please let me know.
OK - Ipod to surround speakers - You could ask a hi fi dealer to custom build a lead for you - my original solution will work but you might not get results any better than you are already getting.
I recently bought some surround sound speakers for my computer, but I have a MacBook and the sound card in it is only 2 channels, meaning I'm only utilizing 2 out of the five speakers. Is there a device that plugs into a Mac USB port and converts the channels to 5.1 or is it purely internal?
You can go 1 of 2 routes here, an external sound card or a USB conversion kit

I’ve never used a conversion kit before so I can’t comment on degradation of sound quality.
