It's hooked up through HDMI. I want a surround system with just 2 speakers (or that sound bar that you lay in front of your TV) and a subwoofer. What is recommended?
Try out this Sony !!

Sound bars (surround sound)
i dont lik wires and speakers on show so i thought a sound bar would be the answer . But which one should i go for?
Polk Audio would be your best bet. The yamaha is average however it doesnt really fill the rears. With the polk audio surround bar you get the total effect of a 5.1 setup
I'm thinking of buying one with a sub-woofer. I'm not into the high tech, 6 plus speakers, high end receiver stuff anymore...been there, done that. I'm in a situation where I want the best possible sound with as little clutter in my living room as possible. How good is the virtual surround sound technology these days? Can you give me links to some good sound bar systems?
Thank you.

Go figure! lol
I have a PS3 and an LCD HDTV also. I will be watching plenty of Blu Ray movies. Can sound bars come close to replicating true Dolby-HD?
You cannot use the un-compressed BlueRay sound with a sound bar - None of them accept HDMI or 6 descret analog inputs which are the only way to get the un-compressed sound to an amp.
You also have to be careful because many of the soundbars do NOT even accept optical or coaxial-digital. Only stereo (aka ProLogic)
Make sure you read the fine print and if the Soundbar does NOT take optical - it cannot really simulate a 5.1 speaker array.
In general - the better soundbars are getting good reviews are ARE a good choice for simpler systems/parent systems where they do not want the clutter or complexity.

I've been reading up on these bars and I'm wondering if any one could Direct me to sites that really get into the nuts and bolts of how they perform and the many ways you can use them in ether a Stereo or surround sound system.say can you use they along with 2 pair of tower speakers(front and back) to create a simulated surround sound system?
If you are talking about soundbars like the Yamaha YSP series then the soundbar IS real surround sound. Even though there are no speakers behind you the soundbar uses the walls to reflect sound in a way that places the effects in the right location. In that case there is no need to add speakers and in fact no way to direct the correct sound to those speakers if you did. The soundbars are most effective of course in certain types of rooms but between the setup and auto calibration they now have they are pretty versatile.
I have a Logitech 5.1 surround sound speaker set, which I've set up and it runs normally when I play music or video through youtube or anything else.
I have an external sound device as I can't install one into my PC.
Just to let you know, I've installed all the drivers and programmes, the problem is nothing seems to work through iTunes, it plays because you can see the bar going down but no sound comes out of the speakers?
Where is the solution to this? Do I have to set my speakers as 5.1 through iTunes or is there sometihng else a miss?
Please, if someone could help me with getting the music to play through iTunes that that would be a great help, thanks.
1. Double click the speaker icon, on the mixer panel, see if there are any knobs turned all the way down and try turning them up.
2. Also on the mixer, in the preferences, see if you have more than one audio device, select your external one.
3. See if iTunes has a setting for what audio output device to use; again, select your external one.

Acoustic Research HTB80 quot;All-in-Onequot; Virtual Surround Sound ...

The reviews of this product have been so negative I almost didn't purchase it. The sound on my two year old 0.00 Sharp Aquos TV went out and the repair cost was shocking - 0.00. I didn't repair it because I knew I could by a new HDTV for about that much money at Costco (with a two year warranty). A salesman at HH Gregg suggested I try this soundbar, since the audio outputs on the TV still worked. Long story short - it sounds great, better than the TV. It has quite a lot of sound (highs and lows) for its size. It's piano black finish matches the TV exactly and it looks great on the shelf below the TV that hangs on the wall. The blue lights are appealing but too bright, I will allow. Also, there is not too much sterio separation, but that's OK for a small 26" TV. The remote is quite small but it works. I really don't need the remote since I switched the TV audio to variable and I can use the TV remote to make it louder or to mute the audio. Nice little product and now I see it can be bought for .00 less than the 9 I paid.
