Surround Sound Speakers Cable

I have a Sony 40W2000 LCD TV and a Sony 5.1 home cinema kit. I also have Sky HD. What cable do I need to get 5.1 sound out of my subwoofer and surround sound speakers from a Sky TV programme if it is broadcast in 5.1.

Also where does the cable connect to and from. Will a HDMI cable do it all or do I need a separate optical cable. Can you give me the exact name of the cable as it seems some retailers sell cables under different names.

as long as your home cinema kit has opticial in, then there is no problems

Just plug the optiacl from the sky hd box into the home cinema kit.

santa got me some lovely surround sound speakers for crimbo...however...they don't come with red, yellow, white audio thing. all i've got is metres of speaker cable which is easy to stick in the back of the speakers but how do i hook it up to the tv? please don't tell me i need an amp!!!

sorry you need a receiver to run the speakers.

to start your first "home theater system" you will be able to add a center channel, rear speakers and a sub to that as well. Obviously you will be able to play your TV, comp, CD, DVD, video games through it as well

so i have a logitech surround sound speaker system for my computer and I rearranged my room so now the two rear speakers wont reach the bass to plug them in. Is there any kind of extension cable I can buy for them?

Radio shack Has a lot of differant kinds. Im not sure what kind of wire your system uses, but if they have a phono plug on the end then you can get a coupler and extension wire. The wires come in 1' 6' and I think 12'. You shouldnt lose any sound quality is you dont go over 6'. If you have standard speaker wire then you can also crimp an extension wire to your existing wires.

Either way radio shack has them.

if your tv has 2 HDMI ports get two HDMI cables

Put your PS3 off connect the HDMI cable to your PS3 and HD TV
Then plug another HDMI cable to your HD TV and your LG Surround Sound set up
This really should help if your Set up doesn't have a HDMI Port use a Optical Cable
connect the Optical cable to your PS3 and your Set up

I live in the UK they are around 10 Pounds try amazon or ebay they are both UK and US

I need an extension cable for both of my rear speakers which are 5.1. Can someone tell me what the extension cable is called or link my the product itself that would be very helpful.

It's simply 2 conductor wire. Look in any electronics/hi-fi store for "speaker wire". The main feature is that it is coded in some way (e.g. coloured conductor, mark on one side of the insulation, colour of the insulation) to allow you to retain polarity. Use wire no smaller in thickness than the existing wire.

You simply wire a suitable length of "speaker wire" on the end of your existing wire (or splice it in the middle if there is some form of proprietary connector). Make sure the polarity is the same on all channels. For example, if there is a brass and silver wire on the existing wire, be sure the extension is wired the same way (or marked side to brass, or whatever works). You won't do any damage if polarity is wrong, but bass will be weakened.
