Surround Sound Speakers System

if the surround sound speakers are hooked up to the TV, does the TV speakers actually work, or does the sound only come from the speakers of the surround system?

That depends if the problem is with the speakers or with the audio section of the TV or perhaps in the tuner. You should get a estimate to see if it can be fixed. A quick try of a surround sound system could not hurt, but it is not guaranteed to work.

I'm looking to buy a surround sound system e.g. Majestic HTS-52 Active 5.1 Speaker System

the product info says that it is "iPod compatible". I presume that this means it can be connected by an aux lead (although please correct me if i'm wrong). I was wondering if this will provide good sound quality and if there are any other problems connected..?

No problems....I have an iPhone and I connect it to my home theater system. I bought the special cable at Wal-mart for $15 since I wanted video as well.

I own a 7.1 Receiver and 7.1 speaker system, I have some more speakers in my house and I was wondering how do I add speakers without damaging my system, do i add anything like another receiver, how should i go about this?

Chickie, you are about as clear as mud! Do you now have 7 speakers + a sub hooked up and want to add MORE? If so, why? If not, what are you trying to accomplish?

I have recently brought a 5:1 surround sound speakers system but have found that I need a sound card for my PC and cannot plug it directly into my ipod or laptop. Is there any way to convert the 5outputs into a simple earphone jack?

yes there is a way to convert it. however you won't be using the 5.1 system to its full potential.
if you are confused about what to buy. go to radio shack or something similar. take your new speaker manual, and they'll get you the right connectors.

the best option is to replace your desktops sound card. there are many available. and they are easy to install.
newegg.com has 5.1 sound cards for as little as $20.
stores like best buy will install them, but its cheaper to find a friend that can do it and invite them over for pizza or something.
