Surround Sound Stereo Speakers

This is the set up I have:

PC with 7.1 sound card. I have connected a 5.1 surround to Front, Center/Sub, Rear. I have also fed the side speaker output via an amp to some PA system type larger speakers.

I want to get all of the speakers on the left playing the same sound, and all the speakers on the right playing the same. Effectively just stereo sound. I have searched and searched on google but can't find any solutions.

I can get them all playing sound, and in th speaker tests they are fine. When I try to play music, the rear + side speakers play weirdly, I think the computer is trying to simulate 7.1 surround from the stereo signal.

Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated! :D

Your sound card would need the ability to simulate stereo sound on all channels. This would be a software setting on your video card interface software. Just like a DVD player, you would need to change the simulation from Dolby Digital to Stereo in order to get sound out of all the speakers.

So a few years ago a friend gave me this double sided cord that you plugged into your vcr/dvd player and the other end into your stereo so the sound would come out of the speakers of your stereo...I don't know what happened to it and I really want one...does anyone know what they're called or where I can go to find one?

They are called RCA stereo audio cables. You can buy these at any electronic section of a store like Target, Fred Meyers, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, CompUSA.

Red and white composite RCA male connectors on both sides. I am assuming your stereo system has the red and white RCA connectors.

Surround sound requires a different cable known as a coax, toslink or optical audio cable. If you don't have more than two speakers, then you just need the red/white rca cables.

stereo has 2 speakers, surroud sound many. problems arrising: stero only has red/white av input; vcr/dvd no sound from zuaux orginally; how to make volume control on tivo removte work for durabrand surround sound with no rem,ote.tv: one red/white output(?) and one 3 way in. has s port, but i dont have cord. thanks!

remember: keep it simple

you cannot get true surround sound with red and white only..that is stereo...you need ot use digital coax or optical

If you have an owner's manual for the components, follow the directions to the letter. You may be able to get a manual on line if you don't have one from the manufacturer's site. OR you could call upon a friend with electronics experience and ask them to help.

Will it sound okay or should I stick with a 2 channel receive since I only have/need two speakers?

You could but it would only have the front two channels. You could twist the other channel outputs with the main two channels to simulate surround sound. A small inexpensive center channel speaker would be nice for movies and stuff.
