I have a 1995 JVC stereo receiver, 2 Sony tower speakers and a Sony XBR4 42" LCD. In addition, I have an HD DVR cable box.
I should start by saying I don't know much about connecting components, so I'm kind of trying to use common sense but that's about all I've got in terms of knowledge.
What I've done is to connect the stereo receiver to the cable box with an RCA cable. through the audio out, and the other end to the stereo receiver through the video sound/tape 2 spot. When I hit the video sound button on the front of the receiver, I can toggle between the radio tuner and the sound from the TV. The problem I'm having with this is that when the TV sound is coming through the speakers and the TV, it sounds like I'm in a sports stadium listening to the announcer - a really annoying echo sound.
I don't know if I have it hooked up wrong, or if I should plug the cable in somewhere else on the receiver, or what! Any suggestions will be tried out & appreciated.
Thanks!
Maybe your hearing both the TV sound and the stereo receiver sound, which are possibly not in sync. Try turning down or muting the sound on the TV to see if that is the problem.
I keep my TV sound turned down and only use my stereo sound.
Other than that, being in the tape2 spot shouldn't be a problem on the receiver end. The only other thing would be the cable box not working as it should. You might also eliminate that thought by unhooking the RCA plugs from the cable box and hooking up to the back of the TV via the audio out and see if that is any better.
Good luck

My mom got a stereo but didn't need the speakers. Each speaker has a male cable to plug into the stereo (one for "left" and one for "right"). But my computer tower only has one female (audio out). Can I get some kind of adapter that will accept both males from the speakers and combine them to plug into my computer tower?
Hi. Radio Shack has a good selection of adapter cables. The computer has a 1/8" stereo jack. Just match the speaker plugs to a 1/8" male.

I have a pair of Monster THX Select 200 Tower Speakers and there are 4 gold speaker terminals in the backas opposed to a traditional 2. I have my main speaker wire plugged into one set and 2 of the 3 kevlar 7" drivers are working great, then when I unplug it and put the speaker wire into the other terminals, the other speaker works, but the first 2 do not. Obviously in order to fully enjoy the speakers all of the drivers are supposed to work simultaneously.
MY QUESTION is: How do you incorporate all at the same time?
These are working with a Denon(AVR-4306) receiver, and hooked up with very expensive M-series Pro Speaker wire with gold tips, so there is no way to splice it in with it. And my receiver only has one output for F&R Speakers and all the others are sub, surround, etc. Do I need some type of interface to add a F&R Speaker Output? Or split the speaker wire into 4 wires somehow after it leaves the receiver?
Please help me figure this out so I can enjoy some NFL action in high quality sound :)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
S
It sounds like the speakers are set up for bi-amping or bi-wiring. My speakers have two pairs of connectors too, but there is a metal bridge that runs between the terminals so all of the drivers are employed when attached to just one terminal. So either you need that bridge or else a set of bi-wire cables. Monster makes such cables:

In my opinion, Monster products are very low in value. They make pretty stuff that works just fine but it's all way overpriced and performs no better than equipment that's a fraction of the price. For example, I connected all 5 of my speakers with 14AWG speaker cable and banana plugs for about $22. Monster would have cost me at least $400 for the exact same performance.

Me and my friend want to make a party on November 28th and we want to hook up the old wire like speakers, stereos with the new hi-fi towers and it`s speakers to make some mean sounds. But their plugs are different. Please help as soon as possible.
Cut the wires and splice them..
Here is my stereo: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MHCEC50-Hi-Fi -Component-System/dp/B000EAPQIW [Almost EXACTLY like that, except the speakers look a bit different. The tower thing in the middle is the same.]
I have the Sony MHC-EC50 mini hi-fi component system and it's one tower with volume control, audio in, headphone jack, CD player, tape player, etc. and then 2 large great sounding speakers that use very thin red and black wires that go from the back of that tower to the back of the speaker. That's all.
I heard online that if you have red and white jacks/ports on the stereo your set to go, but mine doesn't have that. It doesn't have any ports/jacks on the back at all! Just those weird thin red and black wires to the speakers. The only ports/jacks I have are the Audio In and Headphone jacks on the front of the main tower to the lower left (see amazon image above).
Can I still use this stereo to act as speakers for my computer? (To play music on YouTube, gaming, etc.).
Please help!
Thanks..
Also if I can, can someone tell me how?? :)
Use the AUDIO IN port on the tower. All you need is a stereo 3.5mm jack-jack cable!
