I got Bose Companion 5 computer speakers about a year ago, and I love them. Only, I just got an MBox 2 Mini and I can't afford to buy monitors right now. Is there a way I could play back the Pro tools audio through the Bose Speakers? They are USB speakers. Thanks
You probably won't get proper mixing sound out of that setup, but if your speakers will take the output of the MBox 2 Mini it might work. You can get a converter (Stereo 1/8" to 2x1/4" y-cable) where you connect the two 1/4" plugs to the output of your MBox and the 1/8" plug to the input on that control pod thing that attaches to your subwoofer. Remember that this is based on the assumption that either:
A) The computer can see both devices(MBox and the speaker system) properly at the same time
or
B) The speaker system will run without being connected to the computer and will still accept input sound then play it through the speakers
One thing to note is that decent monitors don't have to be out of your price range. M-Audio makes decent monitors that are very affordable and worth checking out. Most are self-powered and will connect directly to your MBox, allowing you to ebay your Bose setup (or change back and forth between the two setups if you really need your 5.1)
Cheers

Is it possible to have speakers that only run off of USB? Speakers that you plug into USB but don't have to plug into any kind of audio jack?

I bought the Harman Kardon Soundsticks (I not II) back in 2002 for my Mac. I have loved them for their great quality but I recently saw that Soundsticks II feature a standard 3.5mm audio jack as the output instead of a USB output like mine has. I would love to use these speakers for my stereo and tv and ipod, but I have googled away and all that ever comes up is 3.5mm to USB converters, and I need the opposite. I hope this question makes sense, If you have heard of such a thing maybe just tell me which site might have it or at least what such a converter would be called. It seems a shame to replace such perfectly good $250 speakers. Thanks in advance
To clarify, this speaker set already has a separate power source...

i have a set of usb speakers that are connected to my pc. long story short, i have a ps3 that's connected to my pc's mic port and i'd like to be able to hear the ps3's audio through the usb speakers. is there a software that allows live playback of microphone input with minimal post-processing? i tried winamp's line-in plugin and it produced delay. any suggestions would help greatly.

I have a visually stunning HP W2504h monitor with truly awful! speakers. When you connect with HDMI, the audio out gets sucked along into the monitor and its sub-par speakers. I can't get the audio to come out of the laptop when it's hooked up to HDMI, but the monitor does have USB ports. So I was wondering if I hook up USB speakers to the monitor, if i could get real music out of them.....
Thanks, Rockers!
Actually the monitor just has a USB hub in it, so they aren't connected to the HDMI audio....
But after changing the default speakers, AND RESTARTING, the speakers started coming out of the laptop again. So i can just add the speakers to that...
Any recommendations for speakers with no digital audio out?
Yea, that should work.
