I am looking for a virtual surround system because I do not want all the speakers all over my living room. I have been looking at the ZVOX ZBASE550. Does anyone know about this system, and can you give me any feedback on how well it works? Thanks.
I've heard several sound bars (including the Zvox 325 but not the 550) and they're ok. None sound as good as real surround and I'm sure sound quality will vary with any given room. They bounce the sound off the walls so the room configuration will be even more important than with a true surround system. My point is, you may be happy with it but I would only buy it from a source with a good return policy and don't expect it to sound nearly as good as true surround.

I have a HD TV which has crackly speakers so I bought a set of virtual surround sound speakers. they have input for the red and white jacks/plugs only. Now I have a PS3 and i've tried every way to get the PS3 sound to the speakers instead of the TV.
Is there a box that i can plug the ps3 HDMI cable into and output hdmi to my tv and audio to the speakers?
Or is there another solution?
Easy money. Ok, the PS3 came with a set of cables, red blue yellow green and white. Run your HDMI into your TV. Run those supplied cables into your surround sound (only the red and white). Go to system settings and select audio output, set your PS3 to use the av cables for sound and HDMI for picture.

I hear, for $130, its a wonderful sounding device. Does anyone here own one? Are they worth the $130?
They are extremely worth it for the price, however, if you don't mind spending money, I would recommend a bose or Sony sound system. Quality is sooo much better.

I have a headset that has 7.1 virtual surround sound ( heres the model if that helps http://www.steelseries.com/us/products/a udio/5hv2-usb/information ) and my question is if I am going to play a game with these do I want to change the audio settings to headphones or surround sound speakers? Or does it do the virtual surround all on its own without needing to change any settings? This doesn't need to be for a game either this could be anything with customizable audio settings.
It does have in-game settings and theres a big difference in sound between the headphones and 7.1 but I honestly don't really know which would be better for the game.
Mess around with it, you'll figure it out, I think whatever settings you like best in the game, mess around with it til you find the right adjustment :P

I have a pentagon shaped room w/no ability to mount rear speakers. Because of the room, only one person can sit directly in front of the television. Others sit to right or left, covering about 130 degrees. A single-speaker surround system doesn't seem like a good option for people off to the side. Is there a good two speaker option? I have my own sub-woofer.
Two speakers would work (left and right) front speakers, but you would not get the full surround effect.
Some speaker mfgs. are coming out with new speaker design for surround sound without using five speakers. Yamaha and Polk come to mind. What they have done is enlarge the center speaker with many tiny speakers, so some direct the sound directly to you and some speakers deflect their sound to bounce of the walls to give the illusion of rear speakers without there being any rear speakers. This might work best for you if you can afford new speakers.

The pros and cons of 2.1 home cinema systems | Home Cinema Buyer
Home cinema systems normally consists of 5 speakers plus a subwoofer to make what is commonly known as 5.1 surround sound. The means that there are 2 front speakers, a centre speaker, the .1 which is the subwoofer and the 2 rear ’surround’ speakers.
A 2.1 surround sound system is obviously lacking 3 speakers, and quite important ones at that – the centre speaker, and the 2 surround sound speakers. The centre speaker is used only to send out all the speech from the movie and is relatively easy to replicate using the 2 front speakers so this is not normally a problem. What is more difficult to reproduce is the surround sound elements of the film, and getting the immersive sound experience that you get with a 5.1 system. To achieve this the manufacturers have designed clever ways to manipulate the audio signal and therefore create a ‘virtual’ surround sound effect. Generally it works quite well, and as long as you don’t expect quite the same level of immersiveness that a 5.1 can create you should be satisfied with the overall effect.
