Is there a device that will convert my existing home stereo speakers into wireless? I have a pretty good quality surround sound system, but I am tired of the speaker wires . I need to go wireless, but I want to use my existing speakers. Anyone have any ideas????
The previous responder obviously missed the January 2008 issue of "Home Theater" magazine, which discusses exactly the kind of gear you're looking for.
The magazine reviewed and gave excellent marks to the KEF Universal Wireless Speaker Kit ($600). Similar (but unreviewed) products include the Rocketfish RF-WHTIB Wireless Rear Speaker Kit ($100), the Kenwood RFU-6100 Wireless Amplifier ($300), and the Amphony Model 1550 Digital Wireless Audio Transmitter/Amplifier ($200).

I'm looking for decent wireless home stereo speakers that I can use as a second set that I can move around the house as necessary. Has anyone done anything similiar and would like to share thier experience?
My experience says do not go wireless. I know I know, it seems really cool that you can move those speakers elsewhere and no wires right? WRONG! Unless you do not care about your audio quality, you do not want wireless.
Why?
Here are the items that use the 2.4 gigahertz frequency: broadcast TV, radio, bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi, Cell Phones, Cordless Home Phones, and Microwaves. So if any of those are running while your speakers are, there will be a hell of a lot of interference. Try this:
Take your cell phone and place it next to your computer speakers (assuming they are not built in): then have someone text your phone. You will here a little bit of a humming noise: thats due to a radio signal crossing the speakers. Now imagine that same noise, only louder, more frequent, and during your TV shows.
Thats what you can get with wireless. Wired systems are susceptible too, just not so much (far less in fact).
If you really want wireless, check out SONOS. It does things a little differently then other wireless systems, rather then send sound directly to the speakers it sends a datastream, which won't gain any extra interference in transmission, and the speakers then decode that sound. This translates into much clearer audio, and the speakers are designed to be portable. Plus it hooks up well to just about any source.
The drawback? Last I check it was a little expensive, but that was months ago, so I recommend you look around for it and price it out.
Optical cables transfer the signal using light, thus completely eliminating any chance for RFI, EMI or ground loop interference
GOLD-PLATED FERRULE prevents corrosion and provides for maximum protection of the fiber tip

Toslink Digital Audio Cable provides you the cleanest possible signal, even at extreme volume levels

I'd like to get my husband a wireless surround sound speaker system in the same room as our tv/stereo for Christmas. AND be able to play all of our cds that have been downloaded to our computer.
I'm a little confuesd by the wording of the question, but i think this will help.
if you want to be able to play your music from your comptuer to your home theator (stereo) system and you have a wireless network you might want to try the soundbridge 1001, it will let you stream to your stero reciever wirelessly or via cat 5 cable and control from the soundbridge unit. However it can NOT play music purchased from the iTunes store. If you want to be able to use music from the iTunes store you need to get a Airport express (w/ air tunes) from apple. The airport express is wireless or throught cat 5 as well and can also be used as a print server if you so desire (i use it for both) If you get an airport and want to stream like rhapsody to your speakers you can get a program called airfoil that will stream i believe any music source to your airport express. The only downside is you must control the music selection from the computer, but it will play anywhere in your house. It looks like from the airfoil program page shows that you can stream rhapsody or any other music sources to the airport express. The music quality is excilent from the airport express, and as for the soundbridge, its ok. Also if you have a reciever or amp for each set of speakers you could hook an airport up to each one and then choose which one to play through or just select certain ones (multipul or all) to play at the same time. Also if you go visit a bestbuy w/ a magnolia home theator center in it they can be a great help for answering spacific questions. Hope this helps!

I have an xbox and would like to get surround sound with my existing stereo speakers.
What I was going to try was to get and fm transmiter, then get the audio converter to headphone jack to plug into the fm transmitter then that would give the audio to my stereo.
or i was going to try to get like a receiving cable so that i could plug in my xbox cables then have that run to the back of my stereo.
i would like to use the second plan because it isnt to far the cables would be hidden but does it matter wired or wireless the sound quality. also could someone show me decent-good cables to do the wired solution and prices... i would prefer if they were from a local store(best buy, walmart, radio shack)
thanks for any help i get
