Home Speakers Answers

I bought some yamaha speakers, but they did not come with a receiver. Do I need the same brand?
Day 48 (2/17/2012)

I know its a 5.1 surround. Can I mix brands? The watts on the speakers are 650. Do the watts on the receiver matter?

I agree with the other answers when it comes to watts. You have to simply make sure that your amp is not more powerful then the speakers because then you could destroy them or introduce distortion levels. Check each individual speaker for the number of watts and make sure you dont get a receiver that is more powerful. ITS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT TO CHECK THE OHMS. Many people don't even realize what ohms are. 80 watts at 4 ohms and 80 watts at 8 ohms are worlds apart. Check how many ohms your speakers pull by checking on the back sticker. The funny thing about ohms is that less ohms actually means more power. If your speakers are 4 ohms then you need a receiver that has a 4 ohm or 2 ohm minimum. Receivers have a min no of ohms and not a max. You can easily connect 4, 6, 8 or even 16 ohm speakers to a receiver that has a 4 ohm min but you cant connect a 6 ohm speaker to a receiver that has an 8 ohm min. Be careful with that because many people forget that and then wonder why they popped their speakers.

Yamaha Speaker Extinguishing Matches

This is one of my Yamaha NS-A100 speakers blowing out a couple of matches. More a show of force than anything else, but cool. :p The second match ...

I have bought some yamaha speakers to connect to my ps3 and tv for surround sound, do i need anything else?
guitarra's (1)

tv is a samsung 42 plasma and i use a hdmi cable to connect my ps3 to it.

Get a receiver (for PS3, I'll suggest minimum 600Watt one). Also get high quality dts cable (digital axial input) for audio for clean pure bass.

i want to connect yamaha home entertainment speakers to a systemax venture computer?
speaker noir (2)

the speakers are from the Yamaha YHT-685 Home Theater System and are not meant to attach to the computer I only have 2 of the tall slim speakers and they don't hook up into anything I want to know if there is someway i can modify the speakers without spending to much money.

Most speakers for home theatre systems are unpowered. This means that they will need and amp or receiver to work. Speakers meant for use with a computer have a small amp built in. If you still have the amp for you home theatre system this would be ideal.

I haven`t done much shopping or research for amps, but you should call your local audio/video store and ask for prices.

To connect the computer to the amp you will need a cord that has a male headphone jack on one end and a red and white RCA composite jacks on the other. These cost about $5 at an electronics store.

Best budget speakers for Yamaha Motif XS8?
November Sale At Sound and Vision Bolton-special deals from the biggest manufacturers!

I'm going to buy the best-sounding synthesizer in the whole world, Yamaha's Motif XS8. So I'll need good active monitors to go with it. I'm trying to decide between a few sets; Behringer TRUTH B2031A active monitors or the Yamaha HS80M active monitors. I need a good set for less than or around $300. What speakers are the best bang for the buck? Other active monitor suggestions are appreciated.

You can't go wrong with either monitor. The Yamahas may be more reliable but the Behringers have more power.

Behringer now makes the newer version called the 3031a:

That is a nice synth.

Changing out the speakers on the Yamaha YPG-635 digital piano?
Chris Zippel's stuido.

Is it possible to change out the speakers on the Yamaha YPG-635 digital piano? I hear the the factory stock speakers are really bad quality.... So I was wondering is it possible to buy the same size speakers of higher quality and put them in the piano myself.

How hard would that be?

Recommend its best to route the sound out through an amp and speakers of your own choice.

Reconfiguring the instrument invalidates warranties, if that is a concern.

Best, p.b.

  • Sony STR-DH800 + Yamaha NSP280 - AVForums.com

Think I have settled on the Sony STR-DH800 as my amp (novice in this, first home cinema setup). Through various posts on here it seems that the popular choice for speakers are the Tannoy SFX 5.1 package. I quite like the smaller speakers, such as the Yamaha NSP280. Would these suit the Sony? Is there are massive difference between the Tannoy and Yamaha's when matched with the H800 amp?
