Two Way Radios Answers

Are two way radios GMRS frequency capable out of the box without a license?

I am going to the bahamas in a few weeks where GMRS is legal, and I was wondering if the radios that claim 12 or 16 miles etc GMRS are capable of this right out of the box. Thanks!

Yes they are, The instructions for the radios contain warnings that you can be prosecuted for using these frequencies. Of course since I am one who plays 1st and reads directions later I was afraid that "big brother" would be coming after me.

One Hundred Dollars

(Contributed by Anne Suggart)

A little boy wanted $100.00 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100.00.

When the postal authorities received the letter to God, USA, they decided to send it to the President. The President was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill. The President thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy.

The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read:

Dear God: Thank you very much for sending the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you sent it through Washington, DC, and those assholes deducted $95.00 in taxes.

A pretty young student walked in to her professor's office late one afternoon the day before midterm exams. She glanced down the hall, closed his door and knelt before him pleadingly.
"I would do anything to pass this exam," she said as she leaned closer to him, stroked her hair and gazed meaningfully into his eyes. "I mean..." she whispered, "I would do... anything."
The professor returned her gaze. "Anything?" he asked.
"Anything," she replied.
His voice softened. "Really? Anything?" he asked again.
"Absolutely anything," she once again replied.
He leaned close to the woman and lowered his voice to a whisper.
"Would you... study?"

A man walks into a supermarket and notices a beautiful woman staring at him.
She stares for quite some time, so finally the man asks, "Do I know you?"
The woman answers "I think you're the father of one of my kids."
The man thinks for a minute, then realizes this kid she is talking about must be the result of the one and only time he ever cheated on his wife.
He says to the woman, "Are you that exotic dancer that was at my best friend's bachelor party about 5 years ago? You know, the one I did it with on the pool table while everyone was watching?"
The woman looks at him horrified and says, "No, I'm your son's teacher."

Ol' Fred had been a religious man who was in the hospital, near death. The family called their preacher to stand with them. As the preacher stood next to the bed, Ol' Fred's condition appeared to deteriorate and he motioned frantically for something to write on.

The pastor lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and Ol' Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note, then he died. The preacher thought it best not to look at the note at that time, so he placed it in his jacket pocket.

At the funeral, as he was finishing the message, he realised that he was wearing the same jacket that he was wearing when Ol' Fred died.

He said, "You know, Ol' Fred handed me a note just before he died. I haven't looked at it, but knowing Fred, I'm sure there's a word of inspiration there for us all."

He opened the note, and read out loud, "Hey, you're standing on my oxygen tube?"

Prologue:

December 20, 1997. Most roads were closed that day. There was a blizzard outside; hardly no one, even the most cunning wouldn't be able to face it. “Oh the weather outside is frightful...”, as the song goes through the radio, hardly it seems as though the situation wasn't already filled with irony. Going home from Harvard, yeah, its Harvard alright. Off to see the folks, trunk's filled with presents galore, shotgun prior to Alex's best friend Nancy and their other laid back best friend Oliver sitting at the back, apparently having a duet with the radio, the three collegiate s bound against themselves. “Hey, I wonder what we'll have for dinner?”, says Alex as she drove along the road. Mostly, it was advisable for students to stay on campus for the holidays, any type of cataclysmic weather occurrence might ensue, of which may only be preceded by an accident. Nevertheless, the three headed along their way.

In Alex's mind flew all types of possible scenarios when she got home, of course after dropping her friends at the airport; a lot of questions bewildered her, almost as if she was having second thoughts about going home. She stared out into the cold, relentless snow as it purged through her windshield. She is after all the driver, and what an amazing experience it was. 16 and was in college, its not something you might see everyday. Though that was the case, no one ever hardly seemed to care or notice.

“As usual, in this type of weather, it's gonna take us about four to five hours-to say the least, we're gonna be freezing our butts off even before we get there”, an irritated Oliver exclaimed. “Relax, what could possibly go wrong? I mean, we got off early from campus and we were three days early in preparation for this trip, aren't you at least excited to go home?” As Nancy and Oliver playfully rebutted each other, there seems to be one other thing that startled Alex, something that iterated itself in her mind, *Its just a thought right? Nancy's right, what could possibly go wrong? We've been fine for the last two and half hours of this trip, yeah, nothing could go wrong.* And with that, she joined in the somewhat enticing discussion of the other two. Yes, what could possibly go wrong? They planned the trip well, had called their loved ones before going and promised to do so upon arriving and had readied themselves incase of any mishaps. Yes, nothing could go wrong.

Three hours passed and the two passengers were asleep, leaving only Alex to get them to their final destinations. Of course, as expected from a driver, no less, with a temperature as low as -42 degrees Fahrenheit, a sweater and a jacket put on together with boots and tight leather pants, she was mildly uncomfortable and was swayed by the subtle, soft wind gushing through her finger tips going to her face. As if someone was persuading her to fall into deep slumber. But alas, what would anyone expect of her, “Come on Alex”, she said to herself, “Just two more hours and that's it. Remember, you have to prove yourself again, you don't want her to be disappointed.”

It was just too much of a temptation, but who could blame her, five hours, and only sixteen. And just by that her eyes began to shutter, only the unthinkable was next. Luckily, she thought well of this before hand, since there were no stops for them to switch from driver to passenger and vise versa, well at least not for the next 20 miles, she grabbed her thermos, filled with hot coffee, and without hesitation put her whole hand unto the metallic lid which was warmer than that of the mouthpiece attached to it. Yes, she was revitalized, but only for that particular moment. She would soon know of the biggest tragedy that would not only happen to her, but to those in lieu of her.

Nancy was startled of a bright light that seemed to grow bigger and became closer, even as her eyes were closed. Irritated, she opened them, trying to keep at least one eye unfolded, only to repeatedly close them over and over again. She had an eye condition, light sensitivity to say the least. She looked at Oliver and posed a wry grin then redirected her attention to Alex. “You know if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't even be friends, let alone be best friends.” She smiled at Alex, and Alex reciprocated the gesture as well.

A short subtle sound was making its way towards them. Both girls thought that it might just be the wind, playing across their tired physique. But no, it started to become louder, almost a shout, an inevitable shriek. But where did it come from? Nancy kept trying to find the source, she was unimaginably flustered, something was making her worry. Alex kept calm, knowing that she was driving at a normal, non-perilous speed. After a few minutes the two had calmed down in a neutral state.

There was a large curve ahead. Everything seemed alright, and they could already see the gas station, yes, it was time for Alex to rest, just a bit more. Suddenly the s
... sound reinstated itself within the peaceful scene. Much like before, it was even louder, “horn...horn...IT'S A HORN!!!!!” Nancy shouted a the tip of her lungs. She was panicking, paranoid and was as scared as ever. Oliver was startled and woke up only to realize that he too was hearing the same sound. Alex however couldn't tolerate Nancy's sudden act; much to say she requested Oliver to keep Nancy calm. Then it came back, the same, startling thought, *...Nancy's right, what could possibly go wrong?* At that point, Alex stared out into space, she couldn't see nor hear anything, she couldn't even move. It was one of those moments where life flashes before your very eyes. It was only when then, that the headlights of the car suddenly revealed the source of the sound.

Not one scream was heard, not even a single word was uttered. It was only the
...then, that at the 11:30 Channel 3, breaking news report had said, “Three teenagers, college students from Harvard University, have suffered a tragic and fatal accident here at the state of Connecticut. It was said that the three collegiate s were traveling home for the holidays, though it was advised for many of the students to let the storm pass and as planned, travel at a safer pace. It has been confirmed that two of the passengers, Nancy Alyssa Brennan and Oliver Jordan had survived and are now stable, but there is yet to be said about the driver, Alexandra Frances Irvine.”

You should keep writing, it's pretty good

My mum hates me and my BF...HELP PLEASE!! its so bad...other mums opinions needed!!?

Okay, the generals first, ive been dating my BF for a whole year now, and we both love each other extremely (OMG!!! so so) much and we want to get married when were out of college (we're only 17). Ever since we have been dating, my mums been a real big pain in the a$$...I tell her i love him and i want to marry him and i even told her we've had sex (which i never would have normally).

okay, the problems. my mum, two brothers, me and my BF went on a four day vacation. and my mum was a huge bitch the whole time, like she would turn the heat on (mind you it was June!) so wed roast and then the AC till wed be frozen...and if she could hear our Ipods through our ear buds she would turn on the radio (on death metal rock) as loud as it could go, and my BF has Bose ones so he couldnt hear it anyway. and she would give him the death look (evil eye) in the rearview mirror all the way there (16 hours). then when we got there, she wouldnt let me sleep on the couch with him ("cause he dosent deserve a bed!") and she would say she hates him...right to his face (she says this to me all the time...so im used to it...but to him! I wanted to slap her!!)...that vacation sucked...

Then my family and i went to Mexico (with out him) and we went to clubs and stuff and i was drinking and my mum let me drink way to much....and she told me that that was because she wanted me to slip and cheat on my BF so he would leave me.

and when were at home she wont let me sleep over at his house or let him sleep over here...and i got severly yelled at cause once she left me in Hutch once (like 50 miles away from where i live) and i called my BF and he came and got me (cause she said she wouldnt come back) and i stayed overnight at his house...and she got mad at me. she wont let me talk about him in front of her, and i cant text him or call him, and shes beginging to not let me go on dates...and all she does is insult him in front of me...and it makes me cry (and then she laughs at me)

Shes told me before that she jealous of me and him...cause her and my dads relationship has died basically...is jealously enough to make her like this?

Help Please!!! i love him so much and i hate to not be able to see him.
I do have a job....he said he would support me...even i we did have a kid...and i am on birth control.

I just want to know if anyone knows why she has to be so mean.

i met the love of my life at 17 so i understand how you feel about this guy. Your mum is crazy. Your honest to her *applause* and she is throwing it in your face.
First of all go on birth control if your not on it already.
secondly talk to your mother. Have you tried speaking to your dad?
I wasn't allowed to sleep over at my bf's house until mum really trusted him, which was about a month or 2 into the relationship. So try not to push that.
She may be acting this way because yes, she is jealous of your relationship......
You really, really need to sit her down and tell her exactly how you feel. How you feel about your bf and how you feel about her attitude. tell her your dissapointed in her for trying to ruin your relationship and that just because her and her husband dont have a good realtionship, doesn't mean you shouldn't. Then ask her to get to know your bf.
If she doesn't change then i would just block her out. Get a job and move out. Whether you spend the rest of your life with this guy or not she needs to learn to cool it and not to take her jealousy out on you. If your mother gets her own way then she'll will continue to do the same thing in the future.
Be strong
