Two Way Radios Answers

What is the difference between a 2 way radio (Walkie Talkie) and a Police Scanner ?

I'm looking into listening in on my local police in my town and I'm thinking of getting a 2 way radio (Walkie Talkie) The radio I want has got a 40 km range, which is a lot....is there a difference between a 2 way radio (walkie talkie) and a police scanner ?

Thank you

A scanner will allow you to listen, assuming that it will pick up the correct frequency! A two way radio (such as a walkie talkie) will allow you to broadcast as well as listen. It most likely is going to be illegal to broadcast on a police frequency, so chose the scanner!

A scanner will also go through several channels to listen for activity!

I want to listeng in on my local police, what should I purchase a 2 way radio (walkie talkie) or a policescan?

I'm planning on catching all of the excitement of my local police and I want to hear what they say.....Will a 2 way radio (walkie talkie) do the trick ?

Stay away from scanners that need crystals they are so hard to get. Go out and buy a Bearcat BCT 8 Trunck Tracker 3 this is the way to go you will be able to listen to any emergency calls in your area. any questions email me...

WHAT TYPE OF LICENSE DO I NEED TO USE MY 2-WAY WALKIE TALKIE'S?I WILL BE LEAVING ON A CAMPING TRIP,?

I HAVE 25 MILE RANGE 2-WAY WALKIE TALKIE'S AND I NEED TO GET THE FULL RANGE OUT OF THEM OUT IN EASTERN IOWA.WILL BE CAMPING FOR THREE MONTHS.

According to the FCC a ham radio license is still required for FRS radios in order to use the full power of the extended range units it's still there in the fine print. However it is seldom if ever enforced. If you really want range and be legal get the ham radio and of course the license to go with it. CB radios still have better range then FRS does and if you get one peaked and tweaked you will be able to punch out quite far. It is illegal to use signal amplifiers on FRS and CB radios. You can use satellite phones and you can amplify cell phone signals with better antennae as you would with ham radio as another option.
Any way have fun!

Is there a 50 mile range 2-way walkie talkie radio?

Is there a 2 way radio that goes beyond 40 miles? What if I'm in a mountaneous terrain, and there is a big mountain between the 2 radios, will the signal go above or around the mountain, or will it not work?

I was thinking of going across the whole Bog Bend national park on the Rio Grande by canoe and then letting my folks know when to come and pick me up by radio.

i don't think so. If there was, they would probably be more expensive than a cell phone.

Best car accessory for two way communicaiton (walkie-talkie/2-way radio, cell phone + bluetooth)?

Me and my friends often have long road trips in two seperate cars and we would like to have a two-way communication device for talking between the two cars. Ideal would be something which switches itself on when the car starts and then we can talk.

1. One way can be a walkie-talkie, but it requires you to switch each time you want to talk.

2. Cellphones with speakerphone/bluetooth.

But I am looking something like an intercom which is on always (after the car starts.)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

bluetooth cuz so you don't get pulled out by the police.

Walkie Talkies are portable communication devices consisting of low-level radio transmitters and receivers. Walkie talkies are often pictured as that black bulgy transistor with a big antenna that one has to hold near his mouth before he speaks.

However, design and technology has really changed the look and feel of Walkie Talkies. In addition, they are just an amazing toy for kids, it lets them have a lot of fun while playing around and communicating at the same time.
