There is no legal range per se.

If you are talking about the readily avaialble FRS/GMRS radios, the limitations are on power output rather than range.

On FRS, you are limited to 500 mW ERP output power and on GMRS you are limited to 2 watts ERP.

This is under Canadian regulations. No license is required for either service in Canada.

Range claims are grossly inflated by manufacturers in order for them to sell more radios.

Don't expect any of these to have more than a couple km range.

It means it is a "two way radio" Ir means you can talk and listen.

All 4 will be able to communicate easily. Read your manuals and make sure you understand operation.

You are correct. There is no limit to the number of radios you can talk to, provided they are in range.

I've looked at some on Amazon and almost every review for almost all of them say they don't work. Anybody bought a pair that actually work half way decent for my son? They will mainly be played with inside the house and in the backyard.
Please only answer is you've actually tried them. and which brand?
